  1. I am in the United Kingdom (in case this is read in 200 countries)...

I have got myself a Panasonic 100Hz LCD television & a Sony BD S360 Blu-Ray and have Sky+ HD and I wanted to know if there are any "suggested recommended settings for various playback options.

    Mainly:

    1) The Sony menu says it can be sett to Auto, 720p & 1080i/1080p.

    2) I expect the Sony probably downscales from BD discs presumably to 720p from a 1080 input.

    3) Sky Hi-Definition TV broadcasts at 720p (I believe).

I suppose the TV defaults to 720p, but if I play a standard DVD (which I figure the Sony will upscale) or a Blu-Ray DVD, should I let the Sony AUTO choose, or force it into 1080i/1080p or 720p?

If I am watching Sky HD, will I see it on the Pano at the best it can be?

It seems a little bit confusing to me, but I am sure one of you clever ones will quickly tell me the best settings.

    Thank you in advance.

    Paul.

The Panasonic TV is native 1,366 x 768 pixels. I'd expect Blu-Ray to look better downscaled from 1080i than upscaled from 720p.

    Try it both ways.

If that means you just got it, then return it and get a decent 1080p TV set. You won't be able to take full advantage of your Blu-Ray movies with a 1366x768 resolution TV set. Sure it was cheap, and there's a reason it was cheap. You get what you pay for.

I think the 1080i setting looks fractionally better, so will give that a run.

Nice suggestion, but funds won't allow anything else. And everything I read says a 32" screen won't make any odds about 1080 or 720 anyway, and I sure can't afford 37" or 40" until 2011 at the earliest!

The BD and Sky+HD look really great anyway (the only let down is standard DVD's showing a bit of graininess but changing screen settings on the TV even improved that.

    Thanks for the help.

    Paul.
