Adding brightness to avi

I have a avi file that is kinna dark, Is there a way to add some brightness to it instead of cranking up the brightness on my monitor or t.v ( when i convert to dvd).

There are various filters in virtualdub and avisynth that will do this, or if you intend to encode to mpeg, TmpGenc will do this during the encode.
