  1. hello all,
for the past couple of months my Windows computer has been unable to open any folder (but programs do run) because when the window opens an error message pops up and tell me that "XTUPDATE.DLL" has made an error and the folder immediatly closes. This has prohibited me from using the computer at all. I would appreciate your tips.

    Thanks!

  2. well to be honest i'd reformat. I didnt bother searching for a fix for it cause it seems like its hopeless. What os? Just start over so it will be 100% stable again. If it is strong enough I'd go 2K pro if ya have it, its more stable than XP most of the time with 99% of the power, just not as pretty.

You can also boot your PC to the XP Install CD and select the Repair Option.
You can then use the tools to examine and possibly repair it.

  4. The OS is Microsoft ME, and unfortunatly the reinstall CD shows errors too. Everytime i try to reinstall ME it gets 70% done and an error message pops-up and it quits. Is there anything else i can do?

    Shocker,
Is the other computer a PC, that is, a Windows machine? If so, why don't you remove the HDD, slave it into the other machine, save any data you don't want to lose, and either reformat THAT C:\ drive ( no telling what letter it might be, don't know your machine ) or just delete that drive's Windows folder, put back in the original machine and put the Installation disk(s) back to work. You would have to reinstall all your programs, but as XTUPDATE.dll is surely a Win dll, it should be gone. You were probably due a re-install, anyhow. And, IF you have Win2k or even XP, now might be a good time to install that.
If your other machine is a Linux box, you could do the same, but I don't know for Apple.
I do this too often, BTW, when friends machines go awry.
