Ok, due to the age of my Pioneer DV-525 player (4+ years and counting) I am contemplating retiring it and getting a new one.

    Here's what I want:

    1. Plays VCD's, SVCD's, and DVD-SVCD's no problem.
    2. Converts PAL SVCD's on the fly like my Pioneer does.
2a. Ideally converts PAL DVD-SVCD's on the fly as well.
    3. Component out.
    4. Doesn't shit all over itself when you use burnt media like CD-R, CD-RW, etc.
    5. Progressive scan.
    6. MP3 and/or MPG playback would be ... nice, but not necessary.

Recommend me a brand and model.

Don't Leave me, us 525 players must stick together

I am not giving up on mine yet......

I would be very interested to know what you decide to buy.

I hear there is a "web site" called dvdrhelp which holds a database of dvd players..... I also hear - though it may be futuristic rubbish - that you can search on said database.....

And I asked... in this specific forum... because the SVCD2DVDMPG+ compatibility listing on that "mythical database" is spotty at best.

And I'm not looking for official specs. With the exception of DVD-SVCD's, my Pioneer, although it "officially" doesn't support a lot... plays ANY DISC I PUT IN IT.

I'm not replacing it because of DVD-SVCD's, but rather because it has started to poop out with some originals, and cleaning hasn't helped. Moderately priced DVD players just seem to have a lifespan of about 4-5 years tops.
