  1. Ok so now I have switched to yet another DVD authoring program in hopes of gaining sound! Here is the nes scenario.

    1. Encoded .avi with TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 using ES stream for video and audio. The results are as expected with me ending up with a .m2v video file and .mp2 audio file. Both of these individual files play fine in their proper players.

    2. Used TMPGEnc DVD Author and selected both files as the appropriate source for video and audio. TMPGEnc did as expected and created an AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folder but with one problem. There are no files in the AUDIO_TS folder! Shouldn't there be audio file present?

I'm about to give up on this whole mess!

  2. The AUDIO_TS folder is almost always empty...This has nothing to do with your DVD having sound.

  3. Well believe it or not for some odd reason I copied both of the _ts folders and it finally worked! Thanks for replying anyway. Not sure where the problem was before that's what scares me.

  4. The AUDIO_TS is always empty on movie DVD's. The folder is used for Audio DVD's, which most of us have never seen. The confusion is understandable, because you expect that the sound for your DVD will be in this directory. However the sound is muxed (bundled) with the video in your VOB's in your VIDEO_TS directory.

You should still copy the AUDIO_TS directory to your DVD though, even though it is empty, for compatability purposes. It doesn't always matter, but some players expect it to be there and freak out if it isn't.

  5. It's also possible that your DVD player does not like mp2 audio. NTSC DVD players only support ac3 and PCM audio. Most will play mp2 audio, but it's not part of the DVD spec (but is in PAL nations).
