stanley spider : wrote during some problems with his dvd-r !
Please understand that tat writing a dvd is a very complex process.
It is still not perfect yet. Many thinks can and will be better by time.
1st. Remember the difference of the file format. Files > 2Gb can be written in Udf, ( Universal Data File Format, can be 1.02,1.05 ,2.01 etc etc)
It depend on the writer software u are using !
Not all the players support that system !!!!Yep !!!
2nd. Your compiled video-streams must be okay, otherwise you will see many artefacts ( square sized and blitterred blocks ) on the screen.
3thd. Each time my pc is doing some writing i leave it, doing its job.
Switch off the internet, screensavers, virus scanning software . As much as possible. Dont forget that the amount of the data stream is depending from the ide channels. in most off all the time it is enough, but dont do other things then. dont shift extra and un-nessecary data, while you are recording..
In some cases it is of great importance that your c drive is always the
ide-0 Master, and your writer should be ide1-Master
It all depends on the system you using....
Shure many pc's this time are capable doing multitasking, but there is still one processor, and all the jobs are stacked, and some off them take some time, wich very strange results afterwards...
Not to speak about the tremendous difference in dvd quality.
Understand me, im not opening any discussion, just postponed my findings here. Otherwise you should see this forum. There are many proffesionals wich can help you on the way.

I'm thinking Hewlett Packard and not Packard Bell??
It sounds more like DVD Authoring problems than anything else. Or maybe the way you burn the disk...
What software to author and Burn.
If you take the RW that does play and copy it to a -R it doesn't play? In that case it could be the brand of blank disk too.
FWIW I Always have several things running when I'm burning and nary a problem. Last night I authored a DVD at the same time I was burning another DVD. It plays back fine. And of course I was downloading on the cable modem with IE6 & also a Newsgroup reader program, Whenever the download stopped I would stop reading news and pick another download file and go back to reading at the same time keeping an eye on the authoring program to see if it was done.
I usually have at least three things running and never have burning problems. Maybe those that do have lesser DVD Burners (I Use Sony) or lower memory capacity or speed (CPU or Hard Disk) And I'm burning 4X which needs more HD throughput too.
Cheers
Roger
Edit: Or maybe OS ? I use XP Pro versus Win98, ME, 2000, or XP Home?? -
hi...had the same problem,in the end all it was down to was nero.
select dvd video..cut and paste in to folder....and burn
result should be fine. -
This is a common problem with the + or - Rs. To solve this, change in your burning software, so that the DVD-R is burned in the DVD-ROM setting. This will make it playable on your computer or stand alone DVD player. Hope this helps!

Eh ? I can't see THAT working - DVD Video is a UDF / ISO bridge format.
Burning as a DVD-ROM will surely result in a disc that only plays on a PC with something like PowerDVD that plays anything that looks vaguely like a DVD in almost total darkness if you sort of squint... -
Eh ? I can't see THAT working - DVD Video is a UDF / ISO bridge format.
Yep ! i Know . but when i was busy during a burning session, Nero told me that you can also burn a dvd is Iso. ( remember files <2 Gb !!! )
If you source data is > than 2 Gig's it seems to be that the udf format is used. And there is your problem. Beacuse many people here in Europe are still using cheap dvd players, older types etc etc. and by now i know that the most off all have problems recognizing the udf format....
Still leaving my subject..... Why do i get The session fixation error directly after writing the lead in. on a Platinum recordable dvd ?
Using WIn Xp-Pro 512 Mb mem on a P4 1.5 system. Burner is a Sony mounted as master on the 2nd Ide channel..... I even bought me specail UDMA cable assebly's to minimize the possible electronical distortions.
The Nero version here is an authorised version 5.5.10.35 OEM. !!!
Right now i am not trusting the motherboard i have an MSI 850 Pr ( MS-6339) ATX-TH1 Motherboard. which supports the fast ramdac Rimm PC800 modules Chosen because it uses the Intel 82801BA Chipset
It has an integrated I/o Hub for single line 32 Bits Host processing and has 2 UDMA 100 Ide channels. So it should work just fine....
Only thing to say are the tremendous form of problems yesterday during a cop session from -R to +r. That should not be such a difficult task, but it costed me 9 rec.dvd's beacuse wrting stopped direct after writng the lead in. Otherwise lets e-mail i can send you the log wich contains all the messages in it. Who will help... ????I. Am Cornholio. Love to see my Bugaloo....
