I tried to author a DVD with half horiz/half vert. Resolution, but to no avail.
The mpeg-2 file (encoded from DV with tmpgenc) looks great, but I can't author it, so it can be played as a DVD.
I used ifoedit, set the appropiate bits and resolutions with the edit option, but when played with PowerDVD, it is shown as 720x576, so the picture is really messed up.Is there any way to go from DV to DVD with size reduction.
Reason for doing it: the source is a VHS tape with 180 Min.At this length, a reasonable Bitrate would be 3000 KBits/sec, which will produce some artifacts on full DVD, but not on quarter resolution.

Try 352*288, as that is a valid DVD resolution. Or 352*576. Some say 352*288 is mpeg1 only, while some says it works with mpeg2 also. Haven't tried neither.

I've done a lot of DVDs at 352 x 288. Correctly pointed out, 352 x 360 is not valid for DVD. You can encode 352 x 288 both as MPEG-1 or -2. I've used MPEG-2 encoded files at 352 x 288 with Scenarist. No problems in authoring or in playback.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
