  1. I am capturing my TV Programs to NTSC DVD quality MPEG2 format. Here is the details
Capture Card: WinFast TV2000 XP Deluxe
    Video Codec: MPEG2
    Capture Size : 720x480
    Bitrate: 4000 kbps
    Frame Rate: 29,970 fps

    Audio Codec: MPEG1 Layer II
    Bitrate: 224 kbps

My question is whet is the best way to conver this .mpg file into SVCD format so that I can burn it using Nero Express.

I tried TMPGEnc (MPEG Tools) to get NTSC SVCD, but my nero complains invalid SVCD format.

I appreciate any help in this regard.

Are you trying to get a standard compliant SVCD, or are you going for XSVCD? If you are going for standard compliant SVCD you will need to re-encode the file. If you are going for XSVCD than you need turn off the "create standard compliant" setting in Nero.

And after encoding with TMPGEnc Nero thinks that it's a non-standard SVCD?

Yes. Nero reads the mpg file and after completing it sayd the file is not in SVCD format and buy MPEG-2/DVD Plug-in to reencode this file.
I am using nero express and fron the wiz I am select Video Pictures -> Super VCD (SVCD).

And when you are encoding it you are using the SVCD template in TMPGEnc? If you are doing all of this, and Nero is still giving you a problem, try burning it as a non-standard SVCD and see if your DVD player will play it - because if you're using TMPGEnc's SVCD template, than it should be SVCD standard...

    JID10T,
I don't think 4000kbps is "standard SVCD", so Maybe Nero's not so dumb.
    I think it's more like 2520kbps.

    gmatov,
dominic01 was saying that he captures to 4000k, and it sounded like he was using TMPGEnc to encode it to standard SVCD (2778 kbit/s MAX for both audio and video). dominic01 are you having TMPGEnc re-encode the video to standard SVCD? Using one of the SVCD templates that comes with TMPGEnc? I thought that is what you had done. Am I correct?

    Jid10T,
Sorry, I might have misinterpreted it, but I kinda thought he was using 4000kbps as the output, also. If I'm wrong , good on him, now what the hell do we do? (I'll read after this reply to see what's what.)
    A re-read doesn't sound like he's re-encoding to "compliant".
If he's not short of time, try different settings till he gets the best that will read, hopefully high side, rather than low side.
When I encode at too low a rate, the Philips DVD logo shows thru the onscreen video, bouncing around like a game of Pong.

    get u an cd-rw disc.

use nero to burn as a data disc, then see if it will play in your standalone dvd player

this work on some dvd players, but not all

Fire up TMPGEnc and select the NTSC SVCD template. Use your 4000 kbps MPEG2 as source.
Depending on the length of your capture, you might have to set the source range to cut it down to CD size chuncs.
    Encode.
Author to SVCD image with VCDEasy.
Burn the SVCD image with VCDEasy or Nero.
    Can't go wrong!

    Mats,
I think that is what I was suggesting. I think Dominic is trying to burn 4000kbps to SVCD. At least, that is my interpretation of his first post. Am I confused?

By default I am capturing in MPEG2 format with the above specification (First post). Then I am starting TMPGEnc.exe, select File->MPEG Tools
In the Type I am selecting MPEG-2 Super Video CD (VBR) and I am giving my captured file name as my video and audio input. Then RUN

After that I am starting Nero Express -> SVCD -> Add files. Now nero reads the file and complaining about wrong SVCD format.

    Regards

So you're just multiplexing as an SVCD... You haven't made the file SVCD compliant. You will need to re-encode the video to SVCD standard. You can do this with either the wizard (I recommend) or by loading the SVCD template in TMPGEnc.

Yes, just multiplexing the file as SVCD won't do it. You need to re-encode the file to SVCD specs... 480x480, 2550 Kb/s max. Use TMPGEnc and be sure to install the mpeg2 plug-in first, it's in the Tools section.

Next time, maybe capture to SVCD spec and you won't have to re-encode!?

  18. Thank You guys.

I am learning this subject everyday.

My capture card (tv2000 XP) doesnt have the option to select the SVCD resolution 480x480. I can set the bitrate but not the size.

  19. Intervideo's WinDVR software can capture at SVCD specs.

Otherwise you need to re-encode the captured file to SVCD using TMPGenc.

REccomendation: Use VCDEasy to burn VCD and SVCD disks. Once you use VCD easy, Nero looks pale.
