    Hey!

I'm ripping an "interactive" DVD right now that has a mac volume appended to it, so basically, when i throw it in the DVD drive, it comes up with the name "FF Digital Connectivity"

One problem....what do I call this DVD? Because it's got extra crap for your computer, it's volume name isn't all caps, and certainly doesnt use _ underscores for spaces. What should I call this DVD?

I don't want it to not play because i named it wrong...

Also, will that computer stuff get copied when i extract all of the tracks with DVD Backup? Not that i really want it or anything, but i just dont know anything about these kinds of DVDs.

    TIA

Also...when I go to rip the DVD...all of the content gets ripped in DVD Backup "without decryption"...

I'm positive this thing is copy-protected. It's the Fear Factory DVD from RoadRunner Records...think they wouldnt put CSS on it?

Or is that just because it's got an interactive volume on it. It's strange. The volume that shows up on the desktop has all this extra crap in it's main directory, but it DOES have a VIDEO_TS folder in there..so i dunno.

Anyone ever done one of these before?

I'm pretty sure DVD content creators have to pay extra for the DVD mastering labs to use CSS encryption, so a lot of the indie DVD producers (independent film people, porn, etc) skip the CSS encryption scheme. Theres a good chance your DVD is not encrypted.

When you do Apple-I on the disc, does it say the DVD is larger or smaller than 4.3gb?

Although most DVD's use all caps and underscores in the DVD title, its not absolutely required (unless you're trying to use 42 to convert it to DivX). Almost every Disney title I've backed up has mixed case text and spaces (not underscores). I've played them in every settop I own successfully, and have never had a problem copying them ... aside from their peculiar assignment of keys ... those discs are encrypted to the hilt.

Agreed, the All caps and _ method is just a simple way to ensure there is not a chance for compatiblity issues. Technically, you can name it how you like

My Dvd or MY DVD or even MY_DVD

I just put the All caps and _ in my tutorials because its just a safety to ensure there is no playback incompatibility on a player that has to have it in the All caps and _ method.

The "computer stuff" wont get backed up, (I think?!?) dvdbackup just does the dvd video related files.

If you want to add the computer things, you just copy them to your HD, then place them in the root of the dvd when you burn it

    MY_DVD
    -----Computer Apps
    -----AUDIO_TS
    -----VIDEO_TS
    ---------VIDEO_TS files

Ive dropped pictures and text files in the root of a dvd for people who use them on a computer and it doesnt affect the playback at all.

The only thing is, if these apps open up directly upon insertion of dvd, im not so sure they will do the same thing!!!!!!!

OHHH!!!!!! You could also try this (if its not CSS Encrypted) just make a toast image of the dvd (use COPY MODE like you would if you have 2 recorders, and just FILE SAVE AS to disk) this will only work when its less than 4.4 gb total for the dvd. and will help maintain the true structure of the source DVD.

    Good luck!
