    Hello!
I have this hardware and i want to knoe if it is competable for capturing and editing video from my sony camcoder.

    Camcoder: Sony DCR-TRV 230E

    PC:
Mother bord: Gigabyte 533, 6 usb, 5 pci. bought it 2 weeks ago
    CPU: Pentium 4 1.8GB
    Memory: 256MB DDR 333MHz
    Capture Card: 1394EEE FireWire
Display Card: ATI 3D Rage IIC AGP, 8MB memory SDRAM
    HardDisk: Drive C is 20GB size 5400rpm. Drive D is 10GB size.
    Cable: FireWire Cable

I have also the ULEAD Video Studio 7.0 Software.

Is this enoughf for capturing and editing video?

Another Q: I am from israel so the brodcust sys here is PAL.
When capturing, what capture mode should i choose if i want to burn the video to a DVD? (DV, MPEG, AVI, DVD???)

And last Q: What software is better: Premier or VideoStudio?
    TIA!
    Oren.

  2. Your CPU speed is good.
You could use an additional 256Meg of RAM, although it isn't required.

I would suggest you exchange your D: drive for something newer, like 80-120 Gig at 7200 RPM.

The 5400 RPM drives will probably cause you to drop frames.

You didn't say what type of operating system you are running or what format your file system is in.
Just what is this reality thing anyway?

First, you should have no problem capturing and editing to DV, but you are going to run out of hard disk space real fast. Whichever drive is not your system drive, replace it with at least an 80GB drive, 7200 rpm.

Second, if your computer can use more RAM, get some. 256 MB is a lot, but the more you have, the less harder your CPU needs to work

Third, since you do not have much disk space, you may have to settle for capturing in MPEG or an AVI codec besides DV. If your programs can capture directly to DVD, that will save you some hard drive space as well.

Lastly, Premiere is a monster. The critics say it is one of the most powerful programs in its class. Video Studio is easier to use, but gets so limited after you reach a certain stage of development. With Premiere, you get to use plugins so the sky is the proverbial limit. Shalom!

    Thanks Guys!
My OPS is WIN98 SE. FAT32.

What about my Display Card. Is it good enough? will he "do the job" for me?

I would recommend upgrading to WinXP or a non-Fat32 o/s.

with the file size limitations inherent in Fat32, you are going to be frustrated with your capturing pretty quickly.

    go for an NTFS filesystem.
