  1. I read all about the +R -R debates and have ordered my first drive. A dual TDK 440N to cma if one format dies. NOW I read about 2 different types of DVD-R discs. General use for data and Authoring. Does this mean that movies can only be backed up to authoring discs. I don't see any indication on advertisements as to which type is offered. What is the deal with these 2 types of DVD-R? Any suggestions for compatible media for this burner would also be appreciated.
    Thanks

check out www.dvddemystified.com for the DVD Faq, it will have information on the difference between the media.

short answer - you aren't ever going to use a DVD Authoring disc. Regular dvd-r discs will backup movies just fine.

  3. Thanks, Housepig. I feel better now. Can't wait for my drive to get here. Then I can tinker with the software and get new questions for you!
