where is this program on the web please.

  2. I don't know about any program but there are several different brand 1X DVD-R that actually burn at 2X on my Sony DRU500ax and on my Pioneer 105 burner.

If you record DVD Video, allowing the recording s/w to record at a higher speed than the rated one is ok. Random write errors will be probably corrected by CRC on the player and if it doesn't it may distort a slice on the frame or a couple of frames.

But if you record data (DVD-ROM) then don't record with a higher speed. I've recorded quite a few Optodisk and Sentinel disks at 2x with DVD Video and 1 out of 5 failed the verification. Of course they played fine on the DVD. But if they had data on then, well forget the data almost for sure.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

I really doubt that there is a program that actually does that. But as Bob W stated there are some 1x media that will burn at 2x with no problems.

  6. What you are looking for is hacked firmware for your burner. This allows the burner to recognize some 1x disks as 2x disks. However, only the most popular burners tend to have hacked firmware. I have it on my Pioneed 105 and have been burning the G03's (1x) at 2x without any problems.

  7. Here's a link to the firmware page. If there's a hacked firmware for your drive, you should be able to find it here.

If you have a Pioneer or Cendyne DVR-105. I have used the 2x4all firmware for sometime now with 0 problems. I have also read where others had some problems with firmware flash. IMHO more than likely was not firmware but the procedure preformed incorrectly, you be the judge.

    2x4all and 12xrip page.

It's not that easy. The discs are 1x because they are made for that burn speed. It is a physical limitation, not software. It has to do with the ability of the disc to retain proper balance at that many RPMs. Buy 2x discs. They are cheap too these days. As are 4x discs that will also burn at 2x. You can hack your drive, but it has killed many, mine temporarily (now fixed by means of an official FW and a cleaning). And even then, the disc may have a Power Calibration Error. So while it does work for many, it does not work for all. And the hack is not the best answer. The usual cause is the discs have decent construction, however, not good enough to hold that rating on a high percentage of that plastic/dye/foil combination. It works, but is highly unreliable. Why spend 30 minutes on something that may not work?
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

There are 2 different issues here.
On one hand there is the firmware hack that lets you "attempt" 2x on any disk with the Pioneer drives, it works great as long as the 1x disk is high enough quality to take it.

On the other some people have gotten up to 2.4x (like DVD+ Speed) off of 2x disk, I have not myself, but my understanding is that its something with Nero, I dont think there is a trick to it, just you have to use the right disk with the right software in the right curcumstances. sorry I dont have more info.
