I have been having problems ever since I upgraded to XP. Now I can't use my tmpgenc to encode anything. I've read all the forums and done everthing I could like changing priority and everything. My next step is to uninstall and reinstall the program. I can't seem to get the whole thing uninstalled. I get an error message saying make sure disk is not full or write-rrotected and that the file is not currently in use. What the hek? I can't see any place were it would be running
    Please help
I will not be able to check back until Sat. or Sun
Thank you for your help and understanding

    Hello,

There may be a problem with a background process that means XP thinks that tmpgenc is still running. Try restarting your machine in XP's "safe mode" (by pressing the F8 key when the machine reboots until you see the XP start menu, and selecting safe mode from there), and logging on as Administrator.

Once logged on, try uninstalling the program again - it SHOULD work! Once uninstalled, reboot and log on as normal

    Cheers,

    B.

This discussion raises a question that I have had about uninstalling TMPGEnc.

I am running WinXP Home and no version of TMPGEnc (I have been upgrading regularly) has ever shown up on the Win XP install/remove list. I have been just installing the new version so that my purchase code transfers and then deleting the old version.

No problems have ever surfaced doing this but I have been curious as to why it can't be uninstalled in the normal way.

    Chodaro,

From what source is your AVI file? (ie downloaded, captured, ripped from dvd), and how is it encoded (ie a DivX file?). One trick that may work is to open the AVI file using VirtualDub and then frameserving it to TmpgEnc.

Another is to check the priority of the DirectShow file reader in TmpgEnc (Option / Environmental Setting / VFAPI plugin) and bump it up to the top of the list.

The success (or otherwise) of these suggestions WILL depend a lot on what sort of AVI file you have, so a little more information would be really useful.

    Cheers,

    B.

TMPGenc doesn't install. I often see it as a zip file that is just extracted. The program doesn't need to "install" to run properly.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.
