  1. I have the MPEG2 component installed in the QT folder and have been able to play MPEG2 movies, for some time now - that is, until I installed the QT 6.3 update, this evening.
    Anyone know of a fix?

  2. There was an update to the MPEG2 plugin too - did you install that as well? The old one doesn't work with 6.3.

I have not updated simply because of utter laziness.
Sounds like it was to my benefit (though dont really use quicktime for my mpeg2 playback, VLC works just as well)

where's the link for the updated quicktime component? Or do I have to buy it again!?

  4. The MPEG2 component showed up for me in 'Software Update' along with Quicktime 6.3.

You should be using VideoLan Client (www.videolan.org) to preview MPEG2 anyways, it performs a lot better and is more compatible, and decodes AC3, so you can play muxed VOBs as well. Although VideoLAN Client won't export to other formats, if you use QT for that.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

It's not available anywhere else, that I have seen. Just Software Update.

Fortunately the MPEG2 encoder didn't need updated, just the decoder.

    Thanks for the info
I must have had my software update utlilty disabled, MAN I have missed a LOT of updates, everything from small java updates to 10.2.6 (which is wierd cause I have that) but I downloaded it myself from apple, so maybe since I didnt get it from software update thats why its telling me (its not checked though)

Question, anyone ever download and install way more than just one or two of the recommended updates?

Im looking at 12 in all, think I can do that all at once?

I got mines to work. I just downloaded it to desktop and installed it from there. Now, I can view all kinds of Mpeg2 files with the Mpeg2 component version 6.3

  9. I had the same problem after the update...
In the QuickTime folder I found

    QuickTimeMPEG.component,
    QuickTimeMPEG2.component
    and QuickTimeMPE42.component

After deleting QuickTimeMPEG.component all was back to normal.
