  1. I've had trouble encoding DVD material into a VCD.

When I select the VIDEO_TS folder (saved with DVDbackup) under open, select the 'VCD (PAL)' option under the 'Quick Presets' list and then select encode, the following text appears in Terminal:

    VIDEO_TS: Unknown format
INFO: [yuvscaler] yuvscaler (version 1.7.0) is a general scaling utility for yuv frames
    INFO: [yuvscaler] (C) 2001-2002 Xavier Biquard <xbiquard@free.fr>
INFO: [yuvscaler] yuvscaler -h for help, or man yuvscaler
**ERROR: [yuvscaler] Could'nt read YUV4MPEG header!
**ERROR: [mpeg2enc] Could not read YUV4MPEG2 header: system error (failed read/write)
I have read the other forum topics at vcdhelp.com related to this that suggest using MPlayer to encode (instead of QuickTime) but I've already done this. It seems that it cannot recognise VIDEO_TS folders. Is this right? (I thought it could).

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to convert an entire DVD in one go to VCD?

    Thanks.

PS. I'm very new to Unix based systems and don't know how to install the other codecs that ffmpegx can handle... anybody?

  2. VIDEO_TS is recognized if you enable the "Decode with mplayer" option, which is only active for mpeg-2 (not for mpeg-1). So I would suggest to encode to CVD (which uses mpeg-2) instead as VCD.

  3. Major,

Thanks for your prompt reply. I have tried your suggestion to use mpeg 2 encoding instead of mpeg 1 and it has worked a treat! All I request is that if possible, could you include the VIDEO_TS to mpeg 1 option in your next revision as I believe this to be invaluable!

    Regards,
    iUser.

PS. If I do wish to install further codecs (supported by ffmpegx) in future, could you tell me how to install the codecs?
