  1. I use DVD Toolbox to backup some of the my DVD and the resulting set of files is a VIDEO_TS folder which I then use to burn a DVD.

However, Nero, is the only one that will format a DVD correctly and let me add my own contents to the VIDEO_TS folder.

I don't "own" Nero so I don't want to use it.

From what I understand, I can't just create a data DVD and create an AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS and then drag my contents, can I?

So, can Easy DVD Creator (which I did buy) create a correctly formated DVD so I can add my own VIDEO_TS.

Or, is there another freeware program that will allow me to do this.

Or, am can I just create the folder structure in Easy DVD creator and add the files.

    Thanks

  2. The last time I used Easy DVD Creator it wouldn't let me finalize a DVDR making the discs useless on stand alone player. I don't recommend that program for burning DVDR. I use RecordNow Max to burn DVDR's which works all the time for me.

Easiest free way to do this is to create a folder and place the VIDEO_TS folder with files in there. You should also place an AUDIO_TS folder in there for compatibility. Add whatever additional files you want into this directory just like you were doing with Nero. You can create new folders and name them anything you like.

Then use IMGTools .89. to generate a dvd image from your folder. Then use DVD Decryptor to burn the image to disk, ie: iso mode/write. Both of these programs are free and work very well. This is how I burn all of my DVDs.

I do the same thing using the "classic" version of ImgTools and DVD Decrypter. There is a guide on the DOOM9 website as to how to use DVD2ONE. Even if you don't use DVD2ONE this guide is good because it tells you how to take your VIDEO_TS folder and create an image with ImgTools (classic version which MIGHT be the same as ver 0.89 I don't know) then DVD Decrypter.

Just create a folder called WHATEVER and then place your VIDEO_TS folder in that WHATEVER folder and also make an empty AUDIO_TS folder in that WHATEVER folder then use ImgTools and just select the WHATEVER folder and it creates the image file that you then burn with DVD Decrypter.

Not only is this easy to do but it makes a final DVD-R or DVD+R (whichever you use) that seems to be more compatible with stand alone DVD players VS what NERO does.

Yes I believe .89 is the classic version. The later release uses a different program to make the images and supposedly it is not as stable.

I know you were looking for free, but if not, you can not go wrong with either Prassi Primo DVD or Record now Max - both use Veritas' PX Engine.

Nero has issues, especially for Pioneer players.

  8. I just use CopyToDVD and it works everytime. Automatically finalizes, adds a AUDIO_TS folder in case you forget, and works in every DVD player I've tried. It's not free, but the price is nominal. All it needs is a VIDEO_TS folder and .ifo no matter where it's located.
