    1) is there a better way
    2) do I need a diff version (the pay version of tmpgenc)

    a. used smartripper to detach .vob files
    b. used DVDtoAVI to turn VOB files into .d2v and .ac3 files

    supposedly I just load the files into tmpgenc and process, but tmpgenc doesn't let me load the .d2v files from my hard drive, it doesn't seem to recognize them as a type--is that why the guides outdated?

    "...In Order for TMPGEnc to recognise D2V files, you MUST have the VFAPI and the DVD2AVI.VFP file located where the TMPGEnc.EXE file is! it will NOT work any other way!..."
