  1. Compusa had the 10 for $10 special again. No rebates just the instant one dropping it to just $10 out the door! Oh yes no limits!

They have switch from full to 1/2 size CD case so the overall package is much smaller.

    Ok the sku is 289893

  2. According to the website, there is a 5 box limit. I went to my local Compusa around 2 PM, and they only had 5 boxes left. Mine!

  3. 5 box limit? Walked out with 8 boxes. The ad in the paper had no limites listed.

Waited for them to open and was the first in but when I got to the spot they only had one. Asked about thre before ome check the computer and went off in search with the only box I found. Another came back with a seal box and ask how many said 8 and said ok! Had no problem at the register.

    Maybe should have gotten more!

  4. I bought 50 last time they had it(erm 5 boxes worth) and was really pleased with the dvd-r's. They read as 2x with DVDinfo, but Nero would only burn them at 1x. Recordnow would burn them at 2x, burned nearly all of them at 2x with zero problems

Compusa has a 10 pack of DVD-r for 10.00, limit of 5 online, but at the store, you might be able to get more if they have any. Here's the link for the online purchase. I ordered 3, will stop by the store tomorrow and see if they have any left.

It says it is made by FMI whom is a company I have never heard of before.

I mean, what the hell guys! I mean, if CERTRON made DVD-R discs I swear half the people on this forum would buy it.

    My point?
What good is a DVD disc when the quality of the disc is poor (even if the disc being "poor" is questionable)!

I'm not saying you have to spend money on buying the "BEST" or "MOST" expensive DVD-R blanks around but have some common sense ... crap media ain't worth your time nor the possible quality/playback problems you might (very well) end up having if not now then in the near future.

I mean, this forum is full of people badmouthing cheap media like PRINO etc. so why bother with FMI?

One of the very best DVD-R discs are the Samsung BeAll discs and they aren't anywhere near being the most expensive DVD-R discs you can buy!

    P.S.
For those who don't know (and hopefully I'm not showing my age too much) the CERTRON brand/company was the absolute worst maker of blank audio tapes and blank video tapes. To the best of my knowledge they are no longer in business but at one time you could find them easily at stores like K-Mart etc.

  9. Actualy pritty good disk.

Have done movies and data with no problems using Nero and my Sony DRU500A. They burn at 2x using Nero.

The DVD player is a cranky Sharp 600U that hates any CD burn media but love any DVD-R/RW media I toss at it.

Wish the darn Sony 3000 would play any burn DVD media! But it does do VCD very well.

It comes up as "LD" something running ADVDInfo.

Actualt I though tape from the Shack was pritty bad.

    LD = LeadData
That's another synonym for "crap" or "cheapo"
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  11. With CompUsless running this type of special and Target, Wallmart etc getting stock maybe the price over all will drop.

Kind of funny. Have some audio tapes from the mid 1960 I did when I was young that still plays and that was off market tape.

  17. I bought 4 packs of these last time they went on sale. They worked fine. I was only able to burn at 1X on my Pioneer 105 until I flashed with the unrestricted firmware. Then I was able to burn at 2X still without problems. I have no need to buy anymore because I was able to buy 4X Ritek at Meritline for $1.32 each with free shipping.

When they offered these back in March for the same price I bought 3 boxes. I've got the DRU-500a and never have problems with media. After getting errors on 50% of box #1, I promptly returned the other two for a full refund. They are garbage.

  20. These only show 1x on nero 5.5.10.28 using Sony DRU-500AX 2.0f. For the heck of it tried recordnow max and no difference.
    Quote Quote
  21. Been able to burn at 2x with no problems so far. It burns in the time of a 2x also.

    Use nero 5.5.10.7 and 1.0f.

I've made 3 coasters already on these things. Can you really return a half used box for a full refund?

The last and only time I bought CompUSA brand, the disks were made by LD01 I think. A few of my burns were listed as successful but later when I tried to retrieve the data I couldn't. When I looked at the disks intead of having a hard edge at the end of the burn it just feathered out from the middle and then quickly came back at the end. Weird. I need to look at my other disks (Riteks, Imation) to see how they came out.

IMHO, Khypermedia really is really poor quality. Got 2 ten packs for x-mas and of the few 'good' discs I am able to get 1.8GB out of them. The rest die at lead-in. Even in the beginning days of CD burning I never got media of that poor quality.

Now I feed my Sony DRU500 some good stuff from Rima and rarely get a coaster (usually my fault for not checking settings). Also, having a good forgiving standalone player like my Panasonic S35 helps greatly.

I purchased the FMI disk last time from Compusa and my testing yielded very bad results.

On that note I purchased a single Khypermedia disk at Mircrocenter (thinking that if It worked well I'd pick up one of the larger cheaper deals on them) and had I guess decent results. It was only a single test burn, and only 4.09GB but it seemed to work ok for only a single test. I hope to purchase more later to test but my funds ran out over the weekend so I didn't get to take advantage of the deal

Oh yeah the Khypermedia showed up as CMC, but I'm at work so I don't have the exact code on me to give out.

  26. I only trust Futashwaki Napolickfudwon DVD-Rs. They say 1x, but burn at 4000x. I get a DVD in about 3.2 seconds.

  27. I really don't where you people come up with all these problems with media. Anyway the last time CompUSA had these on sale I bought 100 of them and everone of that 100 burned without a hitch at 2x. The discs look good and burn just fine at 2x on my Sony DRU-500A and later on my Sony DRU-500AX. These are not crap discs IMO and I hope they have some in stock tomorrow so I can get another 100.

I have to chime in too on that comment
The Panasonic S35 plays like every and any DVD-R disc I ever put in it. Rather amazing as some of the DVD-R discs that did work in the Panasonic S35 would not work in two other DVD players I had (both are different brands and neither is a Panasonic).

Maybe not the best built or top-of-line DVD player but for only $99 at BEST BUY and WAL-MART it simply can't be beat for DVD-R compatability

I really don't where you people come up with all these problems with media.
I agree with BOB..after a good burn, it either works in a settop or not, and repeatably so..

If I but a stack tht won't make settops, I use em for DATA burns and buy a differing brand next time

Cheap Brands that are ok with my DRU-500:
    Khypermedia
    Optimum

Cheap Brands no go for settop here:
    Mitsuii
    Compu USA's own brand

Futashwaki Napolickfudwon DVD-Rs eh? I am interested in buying some of these as samples and perhaps even signing up for their news letter.

As far the media quality, if EVERY thing burns fine for you thats awsome, or perhaps you've been lucky so far. Now my experiments with the CompUSA brand are not varied enough to say rather its the media or the players in question. But my Apex AD1500 has been so great about playing media that my rule of thumb has been if it doesn't play then its not very good. For my money I'll stay away from the FMI/CompUSA in the future... on the other hand as I said before I think the Khypermedias deserve a large enough batch to do some real testing with for my uses.
