  1. Have a Divx (Xvid MPeg-4 with MPEG layer 3 codec audio). It has an error and freezes almost at the end with Win MP, WinDVD, etc. It even freezes with Virtualdub/Namdub.

Tried recoding to SVCD with TMGEnc - stops at freeze point (decompressor error)
Tried framserving from Virtualdub - stops at freeze point (decompressor error)
Tried DiVXFix - still freezes, same error
Tried Rederive keyframe flags in Virtualdub - decompressor eror)
Tried Scan Video stream for errors in Virtualdub, but the new avi file still gives a decompressor error and freezes.

    Anythin else I can try?

  2. Do a google search for and try a program called "Bad Copy Pro". Follow it's instructions and see if it can recover your files.

  3. Thanx but your reply has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with my problem!!

BadCopy Pro is a leading data recovery tool for floppy disk, CD-ROM, CD-R/W and other storage media.

  4. I beg to differ! I have successfully used it several times to recover files from my corrupt DVD's. If you ask for help, don't reject something you know nothing about.

I am not trying to recover ANY FILES !!!!!!]

I have a DiVX (XVID) with a bad compressed frame(s) that standard methods are not able to repair. I can recover/copy/anything I want with this file - even play it untuil the last 5 min..

  6. Hes just trying to repari an AVI file.
I have had no luck reparing any of my corrupt avi's, the best thing I can do is remove the bad frames. And resave it

  7. zero_net is right.
If DivFix did'nt work then you can maybe try re-streaming it through Virtualdub...but I have my doubts.
Is it at a critical part of the movie?
How many frames are you talking about?
If its only a couple of hundred or so ,then just remove the bad frames with Virtuladub.

  10. This thread pops up every so often on here... with usually the same answers:

    1) Re-Stream it through Virtual Dub using direct stream copy mode
[i]This is the most assinine thing I read... because it never works. Go ahead and try it. Hell, give it a shot in full processing mode with various different codecs and it still wont work.

    2) Cut out the bad frames in Virtual Dub.
Good luck. Hey If you like you're audio out of sync go for it

The bottomline is this there is no way to fix this... not one single option that's worth a SH!+

The only way I've gotten around this is to encode around the bad frames in TMPGenc using the "source range" option and then combining the clips with the "mpeg tools" in TMPGenc.

It sucks but if you want it bad enough...

It always cracks me up when people think Virtual Dub fixes bad frames...IT DOESN'T! Probably one of the cooler freeware programs out there, but it aint the godsend people in these forums make it out to be.

Good luck WebMaster, but don't waste your time looking for an answer on these forums...one doesn't exist, contrary to what people say.

  11. Well m8...

    I can do it, BUT...

Four different sections had bad frames and although I was able to chop them out, combined them all into a single avi, there are some big video jumps. I decided it could be okay, but then realized that the audio was all screwed up. Now after recoding the bloody thing to svcd, I certainly have the ability to fix the audio (gonna have to exatrct the wave from the original and chop those 4 sections out, convert to mp2, and multiplex with the svcd video), but then I asked my self the BIG QUESTION:

Is this damn movie worth all this aggravation

Found the answer to solve my problems and real easy - a proggy that would fix all my probs -

    THE DELETE KEY

Yup, now I happy and don't have to worry about it anymore ...

    LOLZ

1)If you read my post, I said that restreaming most likely would'nt work.
It was worth a shot because I have persoanlly come across a situations where the video looked a bit screwed, was unable to be opened in WMP and after restreaming it ...it did work (of course...it was'nt bad frames after all.)
2)Cut out the bad frames....you'll notice I asked him how many frames he was talking about (at no point was it mentioned that there was corruptions in several different parts of the movie).
I've done probably 10 or 12 movies that were cut with Vdub and the sync is perfect.
I've also come across a few that has sync issues and by simply using something like Goldwave this problem can be repaired.
Sure, you could "encode around" the bad frames using the source range function (but quite difficult if there a more than one location containing bad frames).
By running the "MP3 Freeze" version of Vdub you can not only scan for bad frames ,but it will also accurately identify the frame numbers where they occur. I think to remove them in their "avi" state is probably easier.
Virtualdub DOESNT fix bad frames, but it sure helps to try and figure a compromised way of getting around it (albeit with a slightly shorter movie).
