I have borroved a recordable DVD player (PHILIPS 880). I use it to record my old video tapes to DVD.
After recording i rip it with smartripper and use Sonic DVDit to create a new title with own made menu.
After that i burn it with my Pioneer 105.
My problem is:
* The new created DVD will play in my DVD player (supports DVD-/+r/rw) but will not play in my friends DVD player (supports DVD-r/rw)
I can not understand why it doesn't work in my friends DVD player. The DVD is burned on a DVD-R even if it's origin from a DVD+R.
Anyone have a clue?

My clue is that his player doesn't play all DVD-R. Happens all the time.
All you have to do is take even a cursory look through these forums and you'll see that there IS no one way of making a disk that will play on all players, even those that are "supposed" to play the type of disk that is being made.
But don't take my word for it -- take that DVD-R disk you made down to Circuit City or Best Buy and play it on a few dozen players there. Odds are it will play just fine on the majority of players you try it on, and then you'll know your friend needs to buy another player <g>."Like a knife, he cuts through life, like every day's his last" -- Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang -
OR ...Sonic DVDit is not creating a UDF 1.02 DVD that is compatible. It may be that the DVD player DOES play DVD-r's but not at the newer UDF / ISO (1.50 ?).
What is the model DVD player with the problem AND does anyone know what SONIC defaults to ? -
I have his player here with me to run some tests. It can play the same media when ex. backing up a DVD as I use when making my own Authored with DVDiT.
All Volumes burned with InstantDisc UDF/ISO 1.02
My player:
Euroline 6642M
His player:

What about MEDIA brand ? All the same ? According to the DVD Player list here, it should play DVD-R

I have tried some different brands - all works on booth. Its only when I burn one using the files from DVD+r files when it wont work

Okay, try this.
The movies you are pulling are non-encrypted, yes ? Well, then there is no need to use smartripper because you can just COPY the files to a VIDEO TS file.
I know one case where this does not work in any case. I believe DVDXCOPY does not allow you to make a copy of a copy. Not sure how it does that except via the IFO file.
I am at a loss.
