  1. When I set my multi region standalone DVD player's TV settings to PAL, PAL DVDs and PAL VCDs play perfectly. NTSC DVDs and NTSC VCDs jitter when being played in the PAL TV playback setting and play in colour. When I change the TV type to NTSC the NTSC DVDs and NTSC VCDs play ok with sound and do not jitter but the picture is black and white.

I tried playing NTSC DVDs and VCDs on another TV in the house but I
have the same problem. I use the scart connection directly through
the DVD player into the TVs scart socket. I have also tried the composite connection but I still have the same problem.

I think that the TVs in my house don't support NTSC playback. I had a similar problem with my Playstation sometime ago when NTSC games
played black and white on my chipped Playstation. However I was able
to resolve this issue by using the playstaion scart connection cable. The NTSC games then played perfectly on my PAL TV in colour.

I was wondering if there were any cables/converters that allow NTSC DVDs and VCDs to be played on a PAL TV perfectly.

look at the settings on your tv .... if you have an option to set the video imput type (or av imput) make sure it is set to RGB and not to composite,s-video or yuv. setting it to RGB should solve your problem ... if you cannot alter the setting for av video type then i'm afraid its time to visit your local tv retailer and buy a new set that will play ntsc as well as pal

  3. I select the input type by pressing the AV button on on my TV remote (once for AV1 and twice for AV2) this is the only input option I have and the problem is not solved no matter which AV scart port.

It really sux to have a DVD player that supports all regions and a 33" Goodmans TV that does'nt support all regions. Why can't the manufacturers around the world just stick to one region format.

If I was to choice between PAL/NTSC for the whole world I'd choice the popular PAL format.

To get RGB you will have to press settings on your dvd remote . Select video out you will see VIDEO RGB & S VIDEO. One of your scarts will support RGB usally scart 1. :P

  5. I don't have an RGB option in my DVD player settings. The only option to do with the TV from DVD settings is 'TV TYPE' (PAL or NTSC).

By the way the DVD Player I have is called 'Rowa DVD-280'
