I had a similar problem. I installed my copy of Nero 5.5.5.9 on our work computer, so that I don't have to come home to burn discs. The work machine is a Toshiba laptop with a DVD-R/RW drive.

Nero couldn't see the drive and it would only create an image, which I had to feed to the bundled Toshiba software to burn. I didn't have enough time to figure it out and ended up uninstalling Nero and burning the darn things at my house. I think I read somewhere that the updated version of Nero that's one higher than mine is able to see more DVD drives, but I've been to lazy to upgrade.

I'm also not sure if it's an XP or Nero problem, so I don't want to spend another $60 to find out that Nero still won't see the drive.
