Read the guides. You have picked a 'Medium' skill level question, since I assume you downloaded the file.

Oh yeah, it will probably be 3x bigger when done. There is no going from AVI to MPG and making it smaller, can't happen unless the AVI is majorly noncompressed.

  4. Well, I didn't download it, I jusfilemd something with my digital cam and it got saved on my memory stick in mpeg format, so I cut a part that I didn't want with Vitualdub and i had to save it with .avi, so now it is about 14MB big and i would like to reduce it to 1 or 2 MB.
Is there anyway that I can make the .avi movie smaller, changing the format or de quality?

You can always make it smaller. You will lose quality, since you need to re-encode it to shrink it.

What size is it now that you can't leave it the way it is?

If you are running XP, try importing your avi into Windows Movie Maker 2, then choosing Save movie to my computer. One of the options is to specify the target file size, and it'll give you the best quality possible for your file size using the WMV 9 codec, which is pretty good. I presume you want that small a file for emailing of to post on a web page. For playback, your viewer will need Windows Media Player, of course, which from version 7.1 will automatically download the codec if it isn't already installed.

    Hope this helps!
