  1. From what I heard/guessed: No. But is there any programs that can do the same thing as DVD2one and make a SVCD? Probably not but owell....

Also, I have 42 but for some reason I get an applescript error every time I click the SVCD/VCD encode opttion? Does anyone else get this error? How do I fix it?

    thanks,

    yes
    its called Forty-Two

    homepage.mac.com/kaicherry

you just drag the mounted dvd to forty two, let it prescan, click SVCD and type in your predetermined bitrate.

use a bit rate calculator or my favorite ffmpegx to calculate the perfect bitrate based on size!

795megs per .bin is max so just use the calculator to choose the bitrate given the number of .bin's you want.
    1. - 795
    2. - 1590
    3. - 2385

make sure you have the MIN of video (use www.imdb.com to get the length) and then set it for 80 min mode 2
    and calculate!

just type that bitrate into forty-two and click start.

it will make a mpeg2 file thats svcd settings. It may make the complete .bin/.cue for you depending on yoru version. If it doesnt, there will be a temporary mpeg file that you can split into your desired number of cd's and image youself with vcdtoolsx

    hope that helps ya

I have made SVCD with DVD2ONE under windows. Set the file size to 800MB's,it works, you will need to convert the audio from ac3 to mp2.
Problem is that the bitrate is too high for most DVD players.

  4. 'you sure ?
SVCD should have a size of 480x576 (PAL) or 480x480 (NTSC)... and 2520 kbps although xSVCD exists which obviously allow more "freedom" in this standard... but, er... I thought DTOX is just "dropping" frames, which means it won't resize your DVD from 720 width to 480 width...
Finally, is a 800 mbyte MPEG2 with 720x576 (720x480) size and over 2520 kbps still a SVCD ? Even a xSVCD ? 'not sure I would say, it looks rather like a mini-DVD with a bad rate...
Whatever it is, you have poor chances to be read on many players.
I would rather advise ffmpegX for SVCD, the preset makes it not too difficult to encode and author.

Correct, which is why most dvd players that support svcd wont be able to play back the disk.

It would be an extreme XSVCD, and the problem is that just putting it at 800 megs wont work because
    1. the entire movie will be smooshed to 800megs where as in svcd its typically broken over 2 or three cd-rs which are 800 megs a piece.
    2. The output is not svcd standard output, but a mineature dvd. The quality is WAY below that of a SVCD. Thus not recommended for comparison to proper svcd encoding.
    3. Not all players will playback this file type.

If you want, just give it a try, however I recommend selecting only 1/2 of the movie and encoding to less than 800 megs (since its not in an image package) and repeating for the 2nd half. Do ONLY MOVIE COPY! also, use a cd-rw since most likely this wont work.

Ffmpegx is great for SVCD however can be alittle hard to handle for a novice. Forty-Two works wonders and will make svcd with a simple drag and click.

read my earlier post, its the easiest way for make SVCD from DVD thats assured to be in sync.

Try running your repair permissoins from the OSX start up disk under the DISK utility tab. Likewise, it wouldnt hurt to check the HD for errors and what not.

If you have drive 10 or disk warrior those would also be good to do.

How much free space do you have?? on the drive where you are setting the temp/output folder?

  10. I can't check my computer right now, but I'm nearly positive there's no harddrive errors. (The computers 3 weeks old) I have 28 gigs too. I think I'll just check the engines one more time...

could be that. make sure you have all the mplayer mencoder's that the engines installer installs.

id suggest re running the install. it should work!
