  1. I got Xvid and DVL .avi's to work on my computer that has Windows XP and an Intel Celeron processor. [I use the Nimo pack but with a more up to date FFDshow codec and an XVid codec. In TMPGEnc I tweak the Direct Show Multimedia File Reader (via Environmental Settings) priority up and down depending on if i'm incoding Xvid or Divx (-1=Divx, 1=Xvid)].

However, when I try to do this using newer computers that have a Pentium 4, it won't work. When I try converting an Xvid/DVL movie with TMPGEnc with the Direct Show priority at -1 the video file comes up but no audio file. When I try it with Direct Show priority of 1 the program has a fatal error and has to shutdown. I tried using Virtual Dub to rip the audio to a .wav file, but when I try to do that it sais there is no audio stream there.

I can't even watch the Xvid/DVL movies on the newer Pentium computers. Windows Media Player gets the same fatal error as with TMPGEnc and crashes (the error message where you can send a report of the error).

I tried a varity of combinations of Codecs including the ones I use on my Celeron computer that works fine. Why can't I get it to work on these newer computers and how do I make it work on them?

  3. I am not sure which series of WMP the newer computers have. I'll have to check on that next time I'm on one. I do know that the version that I have on my computer with the Celeron which does play the Xvid movies is version 8.00.00.4477.

  4. Do you think that this problem has to do with the AC3 thing and the HeadAC3he software? If so, why would I need to use that stuff on the newer computers but not have to mess with it on my older Celeron computer? Should I give the AC3 conversion a try using HeadAC3he?
