ps2

  1. i tried burning a dvd+r and playing it in my ps2 and it didn't work... i wasn't surprised but when my friend made a movie with imovie or whatever the mac program is called on a dvd-r and put it in his ps2 it played perfectly, and i know neither of us have any modifications on our ps2's, any ideas? can ps2 only play dvd-r or was it the media or the burning program? does it have anything to do with udf?

Also, what are the advantages of burning at 1.02 (i think) udf as oppsed to the other values? (using nero)

    thanks in advance.

That may be the problem. Maybe you should try a different media, I use Verbatim DVD-R and have no problems with playback in my PS2.

  4. in versions 1 - 4 sony had installed cheap lasers that wouldnt take dvd+r too cut down on costs on the machine. it wasnt until v5 and on did sony installed better lasers that would take dvd+r. i have a v4 myself and it only takes dvd-r, but not dvd+r . i might end up sending mine back to where i got it modded, so that they can replace the laser with one of the ones that are in v7 for about $80. that way i wont have any problems.

  5. well sorry to say but i think ur wrong... i have an update
I tried a couple of burned things and this is what happened:

    1. gladiator: direct dvd2one copy without menus, just movie burned on dvd+r hp (worked but took like 30 seconds to load)

    2. Martin Lawrence runteldat: direct dvd2one copy without menus on dvd+r AOPEN (came with burner) (didn't work, just stayed at disc reading screen)

    3. LOTR Two Towers: downloaded 4svcd put together and burned (worked on standalone), on hp dvd+r (didn't work on ps2, just stayed out loading screen)

    4. LOTR Two Towers: downloaded 4 svcd put together and burned (worke don standalone), on maxell dvd+r (didn't work on ps2, stayed at loading screen)

i have yet to try burning a dvd w/ menus and try it, but now given this information can anyone help me?

v4 ps2, SCHP-35001 Datecode: 1B with the sony remote software installed on memory card (didn't try it w/o memory card)

ikebana burner with (AOPEN dvrw2412pro firmware 1.38 )

    1: burned using nero 5.5.9.8
    2: burned using nero 5.5.9.8
3: burned using ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY 2
4: burned using ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY 2

  6. what are you saying i think your wrong, i got a v4 and it will not play + anything, v4 just playes the - format, then you give your all playes that you have attemted and they all failed so that goes to tell you that it dont work. your friend probaly has a new version they play the +,-, format and yes no mod is nedded to play just burned movies, games you need one.

  7. u misunderstood me, i tried 4 different +r formats on my ps2 (v4) and only one worked, 2 were hp, 1 was aopen, 1 was maxell, the only one that worked was a direct dvd2one copy w/o menus on an hp +r disc... i'm not stupid to make a mistake like that, i double checked for the screw in the expansion bay of the ps2 and the electrical warning on the bottom which confirms that i have a v4.

  8. then i guess ur one of the few that can play dvd+r media on ur ps2 v4
i have a ps2 v4 date code 1c and cant play them. but i am right about v1 - v4 having cheap lasers..theres no question about that. v5 and up have good lasers and thats why they can play dvd+r media without any problems..just as long as u use good media.

  9. ok well, does anyone have any other suggestions as to why my ps2 plays this and doesn't play that...

  10. overall....u should just use dvd-r instead of dvd+r, first of all they're cheaper and second of all they are compatible with almost all standalone dvd playeers including all ps2 versions. but this is just my opinion

  11. ...so dvd-r can be played on v1-v4's????

  12. from my own epxerience and from thousands of other people ....yeah ..but u have to use good media like ritek, verbatim, tdk, etc. dont use unbranded as these have 50/50 chance of them playing correctly on the these versions. if u have a v4 and if u want it to play dvd+r , then just replace the old laser with a new one and that will solve the problem.

p.s. besides if dvd-r media didnt work on v1-4, then ps2 dvd-r backups wouldnt work at all.

  14. hi
sorry but only the recent model of PS2 like v5/V6/V7 can handle DVD+R medias as they changed the laser lens... so if your burner is +r only try to switch it for a dvd-r or get a newer ps2
you may be able to get the movie to load on a v4 until some point but that will be all.
    i have a ps2 v7 and i can play both format(dvd+r and dvd-r) with no problem. :P

  15. as for me im a little short on cash and my ps2 is modded, otherwise i would go buy a new one. but i'll just have laser lens replace for a new one for about 80 bucks or so.

  16. ok i'm sorry that you guys keep getting this wrong... my ps2 is v4 and it DOES play dvd+r, of course if i had a dvd-r burner i would burn -r's to make it easier but i don't have one nor do i have the money to buy one... i am positive my ps2 is v4 and it DOES play dvd+r *dvd movie backups*... i never got the lense adjusted... this ps2 was bought in the gt3 bundle.
