  1. I feel so stupid. I'm still trying to find compatible DVD-Rs, but I was searching under Matshita on the DVD media resellers sites. Now I see a few times this (Matshita/Pioneer DVD....). So is the Matshita really a Pioneer drive? If so which model? Apple has no information on their knowledge base or forums. If I can figure out which Pioneer number, I can find a realiable meda.....Anyone know?

I think Matshita is LaCie. i have had four years ago a CDR device LaCie made for Matshita. In Spain (my country) LaCie is a reseller of matshita.

Matshita is the parent company to Panasonic.

  4. Hmm, but I thought LaCie just brands them, and don't really build the drives. I'll go check out LaCie site...thanks for the tip. Hopefully your right.

    Not a problem.

I have a Panasonic drive (for the PC), and have great luck with most media, except Ritek giving a power calibration error now and then. No problems with any other media, not even low quality Princo.

Check out the media reports on this site to see what others have to say about media brands. https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia

Americal, Rima, QTCDR, are a couple of media vendors that come to mind. Order a sample pack to see what works best for you.

If you don't mind spending the money, I'd go with a branded disc like Verbatium, TDK, Apple etc. Apple's can be had $15 for a 5 pack at the Apple store.

    Taiyo Yuden's are good too.

Darn, they don't have the Panasonic UJ-815 listed...oh well.
