I got a DivX movie I downloaded of the net. When I converted it to MPEG the audio got out of sync.
The sound starts of in sync, then gradually it gets more and more out of sync.
I tried lots of different ways, frame serve it, rip the audio out and convert audio and video from two sources, different versions of TMPGenc and so on.
In the original AVI file the sound is perfect.
Loaded up the file in VDUB and had a look under File information. It says the frame rate is 24.032.
My guess is, and remember that I’m a rookie; TMPGenc, assumes that the audio is at the speed of 23.976 FPS (if I can out it in those terms), the video runs faster then the audio, and that’s why it gets more out of sync the further the movie goes. Anybody agrees, or is this fact?
So, my next move is to;
Rip the audio out of the existing AVI file.
Convert the movie in VDUB to 23.976 FPS, then frame serve it to TMPGenc and use the audio source from step 1.
Alt. Load up the resulting file from step 2 in TMPGenc and use the sound from step 1 to make an MPEG file.
Has anybody tested this before? I can’t really see any other way of doing it since the out of sync isn’t constant throughout the movie. I haven’t used any tools on the wav-file, only a small test in WinAmp, and the length of the file is the same as the movie, 98:24 min.
My bet is that the FPS of the movie is the problem, and by changing the FPS I might get around this problem.
So, please bombard me with your knowledge so we can try to find a solution to this annoying problem.

You may find it easier to use VirtualDub's "match framerate to audio length" option. If the number it shows is 23.976, you're probably in business.

Nope, match framerate to audio length showed the number 24.032. Right now I'm converting the movie to 23.976 FPS, will check it later if that worked.
