  1. Hi, I was just wondering if someone could help with a problem I'm having with Nero. For some reason the burn process keeps failing due to the following reasons it gives: Medium changed, burn failed due to underburn, illegal medium, and wrong medium used. It does this everytime and I'm at a loss. I ripped my movie using smartripper, dvdx to convert and split, then Nero.

  3. I know I'm new here and that people reply to us nebies' requests for help out of good nature because it does take time to respond and offer assistance. It sucks being a newbie at anything, especially here as I've noticed sometimes a post is viewed numerous times but unfortunately no help is offered. And it could be that the viewers do not know the answer but it kinda sucks that I see others posting more complex questions which require more time being answered or re-asking/posting the same or similar questions as others on the board which were already answered and people respond or give help. I mean, I've been through the tutorials, the guides, and through the posts trying to help myself but have had no luck. Some people don't even do that and they get help. sigh, I don't know I guess that's just the way it is around here and have to accept it. Just my opinion of course

you need to post more info. what are you burning? what media are you using
what is your source. is your buffer underrun turned on? how much memory do you have and much more info is needed to answer your question. is your hard drive fragmented? how much free space do you have. what is your operating system, what version of nero are you using?

  6. Thanks for the response SecretAgent, I'm copying a couple of standard dvd movies in my collection. I have no problem ripping with smartripper and encoding with dvdx copy but when i try to burn the encoded mpeg, I get numerous error messages of burn failure as I'd mentioned in my first post. The ripped movie plays fine on my computer which has an os of WinMe, p3 processor, with 128mb of memory and 24gigs of hardrive space left. I've tried 2 different types of 80min cd-r's, memorex and verbatim but the same thing happens with both. I've ruined at least 10 cd-r disks trying to get nero to work. I'm using Nero version 5.5.10 and as far as the fragmenting, I haven't defraged my hard drive in a couple weeks, and I don't see a buffer underrun option within Nero. Where would I find this option?

gll99, thank you for your post as well, but I never re-used the same disk after each burn failure attempt. I used fresh new disks.

Buffer underrun technology comes with the drive itself. On my drive it's called justlink and Nero has a checkbox under the burn option to set it on.

A lot of your messages seem to be caused by failed burns after which you tried to continue using the same cdr which of course after a failed burn was no longer usable.

What type of writer do you have and how fast can it burn. If it is capable of 40x or more it may not mean that your system is fast enough to support that speed so you may have to use a slower speed to burn (like 8 to 12 or even less).

Another option you might consider is buying a cdrw (rewriteable) disc. That way you can run as many tests as you want and not ruin any discs. Just erase it between attempts. Once you have it mastered then use CDR discs.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.
