  1. I hope this is the right forum for my questions. I asked the same questions at the SHSPVR Forum but I can’t access the site at the moment. Anyhoo...

I have the PVR250 and I captured a TV show using the WinTV2000 with the quality set to ”DVD Standard Play.” I authored/burned the video (as is – no transitions, no trimming) using Ulead Video Studio 7 and it plays fine on my DVD player.

I took the original video and used the included nanoPEG to cut out the commercials and authored/burned the DVD using VS7, but the video won’t play on the DVD burner and standalone DVD player.

I tried using Ulead VS7 to trim the commercials and the video plays fine, but VS7 reencodes the video even though I checked the “Do Not Reencode Compliant DVD” option.

Q1: Why does VS7 reencodes when I told it not to?

Q2: Is there a better tool for trimming commercials? (I have Cybelink PowerDirector Pro, but have not tried it yet so I don’t know if this will trim the commercials and not reencode the video.)

Q3: Since VS7 does not reencode when I don’t trim the commercials, can I manually add chapter marks using VS7 so that I can skip the commercials by hitting the next chapter button on my DVD player?

    Thanks!

  2. I have VS7 but have not been happy with the performance. I have found that the current version of Womble Mpeg2Vcr allows you to edit and and not have the problems you suggest.

Not a very good answer but you may want to try the Womple product. It may solve your problems as it has for me.

I second that. Mpeg2VCR works great for editing mpeg. Handles AC3 too.

  5. Many thanks for the helpful replies.

I am now able to access the SHSPVR Forum and they've recommended exactly the same software. I guess I'll have to save up for Mpeg2VCR then.

In the meantime, can anyone answer Q3 for me. Thanks!

I'm not familure with VS7, but pretty much with any DVD authoring app you can put a chapter mark where you want (within a half second, I think).

So put your chapters right where each commercial ends.

It's great... except for the mediocre software it's comes with. If you buy this card, be prepare to spend more on good software.

    Thanks.

I played with VS7 last night and found out how it is done. Took me hours to find it though. My fault.. I was looking under EDIT when I should have been looking under SHARE.
