  1. I have TMPGEnc version 2.57 and when I load a 23.97fps Xvid avi movie to convert to SVCD, TMPGEnc reports it as being a 30fps movie (bottom left hand corner info). It appears to do this for all movies that are created with the Xvid codec.

I have directshow set to first priority, but that seems to affect nothing.

What template should I be loading if TMPGenc is saying its a 30fps movie when clearly the source of the movie says its 23.97fps?

Should I be using NTSC or NTSCFilm?

try it yourself. you'll see what I mean. d/l any xvid movie, check the source framerate, load it into TMPGEnc and the info the TMP will give you is a 30fps movie, regardless of what the source framerate is.

Read my post again. I didn't say I did not know what to do, I am merely trying to figure out why TMPGEnc does this with Xvid movies. Why is it reporting a completely different framerate than the source file?

Even if I try the FourCC trick, it TMPGEnc still reads the file as being 30fps. I simply want to know why and whether an Xvid should be encoded as NTSC 29.97 fps rather than NTSCFilm 23.97fps since all Xvids appear to be read as 30fps regardless of what the source file says.
