  1. Anyone else encounter this problem? I've seen a few posts about it but no answers. I create a d2v project file in DVD2AVI 1.76 and then a get an error when I try to load it in VFAPI 1.05 for conversion (????filename?????). It works fine on my W2K machine, but not on XP for some reason.

At first VFAPI would not even recognize the d2v file, but I installed it in the same folder as DVD2AVI and at least it recognizes the extension now. However it won't read it.

I ran the proxyoff.reg file in Virtualdub with no effect.

    Any help appreciated...

  2. I vaguely recall something like this..

    1. Try a different method of importing into vfapi, i.e., 'Open File' or drag-drop, etc..

    2. When importing, keep DVD2AVI open and make sure the VFAPI plug-in is activated under the 'Option'(?) drop-down menu..

It happened to me once, but can't recall how i fixed it.. ?? sorry, if it doesn't work..

Well thanks for taking a shot but drag and drop does nothing and I see no options for VFAPI in the DVD2AVI menus. It does say "VFAPI plug-in" on the help menu but is not clickable.

    Anyone else have a suggestion?

You need the vfapi reader so vfapi can convert your dv2 files into a fake avi. try this link http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filters/vfapi_codec.cfm hope this helps

  5. Did you remember to run the vifpset.bat file before using it?

  6. The VFAPI codec is installed but appears to be broken, and I've run the bat file about 50 times. Heck with it, I used AVISynth and the mpeg codec get it to look like an AVI.

But I'd still like to get this fixed.

  7. the "VFAPI Plug-in" option is actually under the "Help" drop-down menu..
Hmm, for the life of me, i just can't remember how i fixed it.. ??? oh well..

You're better off with Avisynth, it's supposed to be the "better" method anyway..

What versio of DVD2Avi are you using?

    Could be a version conflict.

VFAPI doesn't work with DVD2AVI2 (A.K.A. V 1.83.5), but does work with the official release of 1.76.

You may need to update VFAPI, newest I've seen is 105.

You can also get a d2v ax (active x controller) that allows many programs to open d2v as if it was a video file.

Pro Coder works well this way.

  9. OK, I think its at least partly fixed. Something I installed recently must have interfered somehow, but I don't know what's out of whack - I did a before/after snapshot installing DVD2AVI 1.77 and VFAPI 1.05 on a clean build and determined that the following registry value was not set on my main box:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VFPlugin]
    "DVD2AVI"="C:\\Apps\\DVD2AVI\\DVD2AVI.vfp"

Still doesn't seem 100%, the "VFAPI Plug in" line on the Help menu in DVD2AVI is not checked and I can't get it to generate an audio file from the stream, but at least VFAPI recognizes the D2V file now.

    Thanks for all the tips!
