I don't know if any of you folks outside the UK have ever seen family fortunes, but it's basically two sets of families competing against each other for a crappy prize by attempting to guess the most popular answers to certain questions.
What follow's is actual answers given by British contestant's during the shows three hundred year history:
My apologies if you've seen this before but it's always worth reading

Name something a blind person might use - A sword

Name a song with moon in the title - Blue Suede Moon

Name a bird with a long neck - Naomi Cambell

Name an occupation where you need a torch - Burglar

Name a famous brother and sister - Bonnie and Clyde

Name a dangerous race - The Arabs

Name an item of clothing worn by the Three Musketeers - a horse

Name something that floats in the bath - water

Name something you wear on the beach - a deckchair

Name something red - my cardigan

Name a famous cowboy - Buck Rogers

Name a famous royal - Mail

Name a number you have to memorize - 7

Name something you do before going to bed - sleep

Name something you put on walls - roofs

Name something in the garden that is green - the shed

Name something that flies that doesn't have an engine - a bicycle with wings

Name something you might be allergic to - skiing

Name a famous bridge - A bridge over troubled waters

Name something a cat does - goes to the toilet

Name something you do in the bathroom - decorate

Name an animal you might see in the Zoo - a dog

Name something associated with the Police - Pigs

Name a sign of the Zodiac - April

Name something slippery - a conman

Name a kind of ache - Fillet o' Fish

Name of a food that can be brown or white - potatoe

Name a jacket potatoe topping - jam

Name a famous Scotsman - Jock

Name another famous Scotsman - Vinnie Jones

Name something that has a hole in it - window

    Name a non-living object with legs - a plant

Name a domestic animal - leopard

Name a part of the body beginning with N - Knee

Name a way of cooking fish - Cod

Name something you open other than a door - your bowels
I don't particularly care if these are legitimate answers or not but if, at the very least, they make you smile then I've accomplished my aim

In other words, it's the British version of "Family Feud."

You're probably right. Heck, my knowledge of the history of FF comes from the "E! True Hollywood Story" about the show, so I don't think I can be blamed too much for not knowing.

lol... i've seen this list before, or a version of it, but most of them were new. Must be updated with some stuff from the recent editions. It's lost popularity and gone downhill a bit (though the crappy car you win isn't so nasty any more.. like a daewoo lanos instead of a fiat 126 ) so probably only the real retards are applying any more, making for a real comedy goldmine...
or maybe i saw the family feud list. whatever..

was/is a funny show, watching people's brains get fried by the pressure of being on camera and saying dumb stuff, wishing that you never get put in that situation yourself as you'd do the same
can't say that for youve been framed any more

is les dennis still presenting, or has it moved on, like to dale winton, graham (or "gram" as his female american guests always call him) norton...?

Still puzzling over what food other than a potato/e can be brown or white... sugar is brown and white, but it's not really a food per se... meat is brown or white when cooked but usually refered to as red and white... etc... hmm.

    doh. chocolates.

I think Feud was first -- it's at least 20 years old. At least that's how it's been described recently on all those "craziest game show moments" that as on FOX and VH-1 this past month.

I think it's just the "newer" shows like Idol, Millionaire, Whose Line Is It, and others that snuck over here.

If he's fat, has no talent, talks like Jonathon and looks ten years older than I'm 99% sure it's JR's brother.

Yeah, that's what I though. I've been watching Feud since the 70s.

According to the IMDB, "Family Feud" began in 1976, with Richard Dawson as host. (Hosting duties have since passed to the late Ray Combs, Louie Anderson, and now Richard "Al Borland" Karn.) "Family Fortunes" began in 1978, which tells me that, in this case, we exported a show to the UK, not the other way around.

Then again, Britain has always had "Doctor Who," so they're ahead in this "race" no matter what.

I don't watch the UK version that closely, I was generalising.
Don't tell me, you know who the assistant director is on the US show, right?
Nice to meet a real fan but anyway, I wasn't expecting this thread to turn into a 'our show is better than yours' shite.

Hehe... wouldn't kick Ms Holden out of bed for eating toast...

Family Fortunes was indeed playing for cash as well as prizes. Don't know how the money stacked up against the american version though, seeing as we had - until millionaire - those limits on how big a monetary prize a show can give out..

White and brown, well i got chocolate, but bread and rice... goddamn you all! (i see white and 'wholemeal' on the shelf.. some upbringing eh... )
There has to be at least two other answers though! Remember the show usually had five to eight top answers for any question they surveyed the public on.

    Hmm.
