Is there any way to get an automatic shutdown with CCE (2.5) after it finishes a job? Its a nonsense to have a faster encoder than TmpgEnc, but in the end the computer has to stay almost the same time connected all night through.

CCE isn;t designed to be operated by a home user. it does not have auto shutdown. solution 1, just do more passes so it's done when you wake up. solution 2, stay up later on the forum and start cce later so it's done when you wake up.

Easy, so long as you can roughly estimate how long the encode will take. I use a program called "MacroMagic" whereby I can create macros. E.g. I have macros to start/stop capturing using Scenalyzer, begin encoding, and then shutdown once completed. Once these macros are created, you use the Windows Task Scheduler to set the actual times. In other words, the macros tell your system "what" to do, and Task Scheduler tells it "when" to do it. Works great. Even better (no estimation required), if you create a macro that starts your encoding, then you easily add another command within that macro to shut down your system once the encoding is completed. I recently published a guide on using MacroMagic to control timing with Scenalyzer. This will give you a better idea how it works. Hope this helps.

or .. if you are running Windows 2000 or XP you can set your PC to hibernate after being idle for a certain time.
(Hibernation means it saves its current state and shuts down - when you turn it back on it will restore itself to the same state).
