Hope this may be of value to someone.
I've been using an ADVC-100 and Scenalyzer for capturing video (satellite, VHS, laserdisc, etc.) for some time now--really works great.
Just learned (looked at the capture options, DUH!) that Scenalyzer has an option for capturing audio only. For those of you (old guys like me) who also has a large collection of vinyl/cassettes, it has one pretty neat feature--file splitting while you capture. I've always just captured the entire tape/record and then afterwards did the file splitting manually--the automatic ones, e.g. in Easy CD Creator, don't work very well. However, for some music (especially soft, low amplitude stuff), manual file-splitting can be extremely time-consuming. In fact, at one time, I searched for audio recording software on ZD-net that had such a "manual" track splitting capability during capture. No luck.
I'm not sure how the quality of the audio conversion in the ADVC-100 compares with sound cards, although I suspect it's pretty comparable, and perhaps a lot better in some instances (e.g. if you use your onboard sound chip). If anyone has any info, it would be appreciated. Anyway, hope this little tidbit may be of use to someone.
