I have a Digital 8 camera and I use Adobe 6 to edit with. The problem I am having is that I capture using the included software that came with my Sony Vaio because it seems to have better device control then Abobe. When I import the file into Adobe (or for that matter when I capture with Adobe) it plays all choppy. If I hit the preview button Premiere will process the file and then it plays fine. My problem is that this rendering process takes forever. Is there a capture utility that will capture from a DV camera to uncompressed AVI ,which is the format Premiere seems to like best. Right now I am capturing in the Sony Movieshaker program saving to Digital Video (AVI) then importing to Adobe. Can anybody please same me some time. Thanks

  2. This might not help you(might just piss you off) but use the firewire instead of capturing. You won't loose any quality, and the video would look awesome. I have seen laptop firewire cards for under $30 on ebay brand new. If you already know about this, then ignore me while I pull my foot from my mouth.

I'm sorry. I guess I wasn't clear. I do use the firewire port. In fact at this time the 1394 port is my only option for capturing.

Based on the response I guess I am the only one having this trouble.

  5. Ash, I can only tell you that I also have Sony Vaio and use its DVGate software to capture the DV tape (I've Sony MiniDV camcorder). When I import to Adobe Premiere, there's no choppiness or anything; it does take time to export to tape.

  6. Download the demo of AVI_IO, it supports firewire card capture. You can find a link in the Tools section. Personally, haven't tried it yet but a lot of people seems to find it useful.
