I tried to make an attempt to post this in the TDK topic, but it got passed up, so I'll try to make another attempt as a separate topic. I plan to order some of the 25PKs. Are these made in Japan? Thanks in advance!

No, they are made in Taiwan (Both the 25 and 100 packs at the Best Buy that I checked). The 15-pack at the neighboring Circuit City were made in Japan though.

Is there a difference if they are made in Japan or Taiwan? I noticed that the 5PKs @ Target are made in Taiwan, but the new 20PKs they just got are Japan. Japan is usually regarded as the ultimate place to have a product manufactured...but, what do I know.

As long as they are made to TDK specs, that is what matters to me. Has it ever been determined if the 25/100 spindles are legit. Posts by people say they seem to be legit because they work as well as TDKs usually do, but nothing directly from TDK.

I believe they are the real deal. Mostly b/c they are being sold at BestBuy. No one has seen the 20PKs online either, but Target has them. I guess TDK is cutting an exclusive deal with BestBuy and Target. Target has always had the largest selection of TDK products (CD-Rs,computer supplies, VHS tapes, etc.) that I have seen compared to other retailers.

I agree with gcutler. To cut cost, a company would move its manufacturing operations outside of its home country. However the manufacturing process is still run/supervised/monitored by their people with the same rigid quality assurance process as when it was back home. If it's a well known brand, I no longer inspect its originality. I hope my assumption is right

Target carries TDKs now. I think they were in a 20 pack spindle, they also carry individual ones. The 20 pk were $43.99

I bought a 25 pack from Best Buy and put one into DVDInfo and they were real TDK's so I will probably be buying a 100 pack real soon.

Bought the 100 pack.......no problems so far. I could have gone cheaper by getting Ritek 4x -R's....I like the TDK quality. This is NOT the cheapest but it IS a great price for nice quality DVDs. They burn fine at 2x in my Sony DRU500A.

I was to Best Buy in Bangor, Maine and all TDK DVD-R spindles were sold out...there were plenty of DVD+Rs though...
