    Hi all,

For some reason, I'll explain in a sec, I decided to upgrade the firmware on my Sony. I had 1.0F and just flashed it to 2.0F.

Now...the Accu's -R's I was successfully burning at 2x are now down to 1x. I flashed it because I am awaiting shipment on 4x +R's from OD, buy 1 get 1 free so it's 30 of them for $32, comparable to the Accu's within a few cents. But because I have over 100 of the Accu's laying around, and I know I'll use up the 4x's, I'm kind of sad about the speed issue with the new firmware.

Does anyone have earlier versions of the firmware that they could forward me? I don't know how wise it is to go back and forth between the firmwares based on my stock of blanks, but 63 minutes for a full DVD I think is quite excessive.

Anyway, hope I didn't bore anyone and if someone could help out, I'd be grateful.

    It absolutely helped!!!

I reflashed with the 1.0F and can now burn on my Accu's at 2x. I'll wait for my 4x media to arrive, see how it burns with this firmware and act accordingly. If indeed I need to reflash to 1.0G or later, (thanks to you and the dude that runs that web page and the folks that contribute to it), I can flash with the firmware I downloaded from that site.

I dl'd them all thinking I might find a firmware that allows 2x to the Accu's and 4x to the media on order...I know, put the crack pipe down and step away from the table.

  6. Hi all I just wanted to post this to all that have been having problems with Sony DRU500. When I first bought the drive I was having lots and lots of problems burning DVD-R's but DVD+R's were ok. I called Sony and all this time I was thinking it might be a media problem. I think I bought every type of DVD-R Media out there with no luck. This is what I was running in my computer at the time.

AMD 1900+ Windows XP without the SP1
DVD-ROM, Two CDR burners, 512 DDR Ram 2100,
5 internal and 1 External Hards Drive totaling 740 Gigs
yes I know its alot. ATI AIW 7500 Video Card and
    5.1 SoundBlaster Soundcard.

Anyway I had a bad crash on my Operating System Hard Drive which I had to reformat and reinstall XP. Well at that time I had the XP with the SP1 already in the install disk so I use that one instead of the reg XP w/o SP1. Well after all was install low and behold my DVD burner was now burning DVD-R even ones that were not suppose to work with Sony were working. And at 2x all of them. At the time I had Firmware 1.0d so I wanted to test one of the older firmware and see what happen so I went back to 1.0a and still it was working with every DVD-R I throw at it. Now I'm at 1.0G so if you guys with this problem this might work for u too. Good Luck All. Hope I help

  7. I just formatted my O/S hard drive and reinstalled windows xp w/ sp1 and I am still having the same problems I had before I formatted. With both Record Now and Nero as soon as I click to begin the writing process I encounter an error and the program tells me it is because of the disk. I've tried both +/-'s Verbatims and I continually get this error. No data is being written so I haven't made any coasters yet, though. When I first had the burner I was experiencing the same problems then I flashed to a newer firmware. But I've tried recently on 1.0f 1.0g and 2.0f and the same error on all of them. However when I did get it to work about a month and a half ago or so, before I did the firmware I changed the settings for PIO/DMA mode on the burner but now I cant remember where to go to change that setting but it seemed to work for me last time. Does anyone have any input?
