  1. Hi all,
I am wondering if these new DVD camcordrs (i.e. Hitachi and Sony) are easy for transfering the files to a PC? Right now I have a DV and I easily treansfer the video/audio to my PC through a Firewire port (it is really a transfer thing than captureing). So my questions are:

1- How does the transfering of video/audio from a DVD camcorder to PC take place particularly using a DVD-RAM? Can I just take the DVD-RAM out of my camcorder and put it in DVD-RAM drive and copy it into my hard drive?

2- What would be the file extention of that file? Can I directly load it into an editing software such as Ulead Video studio without going through any sort of conversion?

3- Can I capture the video/audio from the DVD camcorder by an editing software like Ulead through USB ports? If yes, would this process be a simple MPEG2 transfering from cam to PC or the file would be re-encoded by the software?

    Thanks.

They would have to record mpeg2 to the dvd so it can be read by the dvd player. Thus you are immediately losing quality. If you need to capture rather than transfer directly via firewire you would lose quality again. I think these camcorders are for the uninformed and do not make a whole lot of scense. Plus if you need to edit your video you are going to be working with mpeg2 video. I say stay away from these camcorders.
