    First my system specs:
    G4 Cube
    450mhz
    OS X.2.5
    768mb Ram

    Movie
    The Sign
    Gladiator

    First: Backup
I used DVDBackup 1.3 to back up the movies. It took roughly 30min per disk to backup.

    Second: Process Wizard
I changed the priority of DVD2One to full

    Third: DVD2One
The Sign: Movie Only: 18 Min
The Sign: DIskcopy: 1hr 18 Min

    Gladiator: Movie Only: 17 Min
    Gladiator: Diskcopy: 1hr 38 Min

The output of this program is wonderful. I'll post screenshots later today.

  2. Interesting - things are a bit different for me...

    System:
    G4 PowerMac MDD
    2x1.0GHz
    OS X.2.5
    1024MB Ram

    Movie
    The Terminator

    First: Backup
The limiting factor here is drive speed - the SuperDrive isn't so super here so this takes a while regardless of CPU. I think I was a bit quicker than 30 mins tho - I have an A-04 do you have an A-03?

    Second: Process Wizard
I didn't play with the priority of DVD2One.

    Third: DVD2One
The Terminator: Movie Only: 18 Min
    The Terminator: Diskcopy: 25 Min

Interesting - I'm about the same as you for movie only but way faster on a full disk copy - very odd! There were'n't that many extras on the disk - it was a two disk set with all the extras on disk 2. Even so I would expect the time to double at worst even for a DVD packed with goodies as the main feature is always more than half the disk... I'll try some disks with more extras on them and post my results later.

  3. I agree: those diskcopy times seem way too huge. Try running DTOX WITHOUT changing with the priority and see what happens! Hmm.

BTW, I have found that while DTOX is disk-intensive, it works quite happily along with OSeX, DVDBackup, or Toast without massive delays (G4, no idea what mHz speed). I can burn a disk in Toast while processing the another DVD in DTOX, and both come out fine.

    (added later)
I'm currently making a full disk backup of my horribly scratched copy of DANCER IN THE DARK. Took about twice as long to rip because of all the surface gouges (with some scary grinding noices from time to time).

DTOX is estimating 27 minutes for a full disk copy (7.67 GB).

i finally tried it out last night and while it took me 3 tries with dvd backup to finally get a copy, osex wouldn't even work, saying currupt dvd. even though it was brand new and played fine in dvd player. the new once a thief dvd from columbia tristar.

    anyways a dp 800 g4 1.1 gig ram

movie only was like 6 minutes. but i'm sure it varies dvd to dvd. but i was still very happy.

what do you guys mean by " changing the priority" of dtox? meaning movie only or disk copy???

By changing the priority I mean that I made the OS spend more time on the DVD2Once program than on my other running programs. It basically told the OS that DVD2One is more important that other running processes.

  7. Here are the results of my first test, for whatever it's worth (I'm borrowing tgpo's format here):

    First my system specs:
    G4 MDD dual-867
    OS X.2.5
    512mb Ram

    Movie
    Resident Evil

    First: Backup
I used DVDBackup 1.3 to back up the movies. It took about 30min to backup. The backup VIDEO_TS folder was approx. 7 GB.

    Second: Process Wizard
I did not change the priority of DVD2OneX.

    Third: DVD2One
    Movie Only: 10 Min
    Diskcopy: 27 Min

The output was very good. I couldn't really see any discernable difference between the original and the Movie-only result. The full Diskcopy's quality was not as good though (and I wouldn't expect it to be), but it was still decent -- better than SVCD, and with better resolution.

To change the settings for priority I use the program Process Wizard. I'm about to try another movie without using the program to see if it makes any difference.

Here are the results of my first test, for whatever it's worth (I'm borrowing tgpo's format here):

    First my system specs:
    G4 MDD dual-1.25
    OS X.2.3
    1024mbRam

    Movie
    The Game

    First: Backup
I used DVDBackup 1.3 to back up the movies. It took about 25min to backup. The backup VIDEO_TS folder was 6.8 GIGS
    OSeX same reults, little longer.

    Second: Process Wizard
I set the priority to max for DVD2ONE just to see if any difference for dual processor setting it to max

    Third: DVD2One
    Movie Only: 12 Min
    Diskcopy: 24 Min

Same Results. Movie only copy slightly more noticable quality - 17" HD Flat Pannel studio display it looks equal to the DVD. Full disk copy quality is also very excellent!

Id like to see what the 1.42 dual machine can do.!
Very little difference when setting priority to max for my machine.

  11. Hi.
These are great results to read.
I did not have this success.

    specs:
    1gz iMac
    gig of ram

Everything worked fine, DVD Back up
    DVD2onex..fine
I then burned the VIDEO_TS folder using toast...PROBLEM
The disk would load on my player???
    Did I forget a file/step?
any help would be VERY cool.
    thanks.

  13. to change priority of DVD2ONEX, and I don't know that this makes any difference, but type the following in the terminal:

    sudo renice xx PID

where xx is a number between -20 (the highest possible system priority) and 20 (the lowest possible system priority).
PID=the process id number for DVD2one, you can obtain this by typing:

    top

at the command prompt to display the top processes. The number listed next to the "DVD2onex" process is the PID, it's like the 1st or second column. Well ENJOY!

I use -17 when I'm renic'ing dvd2one. I don't think it makes it a WHOLE Lot faster, but i have noticed some speed up. For instance, DVD2one's expected time drops like 6 minutes when I renice it up in the priority list. Anyways, for more info obviously type:

    man renice

in the command line, or check out a google search for renice and all it's options.

I just did the new Harry Potter movie in Movie Only mode and it took 1:07:27 to finish. I didn't change any priorities nor did I have any other programs running.
