  1. My game systems are all connected to a switch box.. The audio from that goes into my PC so that I can have great surround sound while playing PS2, DVDs, etc.. My question is, will it effect my MPGs in any way while sound is playing thru my PC and TMPGENC is encoding?

While I'm on the subject of TMPGEnc, anyone know if there's a way to pause the encoding process while it's in the middle of a job?

To pause, just press stop, it asks if you are sure, then when you want to resume go back and click NO

If all you're doing with the audio is sending it into your soundcard and then back out again to speakers, it should have no effect at all on the encoding.. most cards it shouldn't 'touch' the actual PC at all, going straight thru the soundcard (the PC just supplying control messages eg volume & muting, it's own sounds, and only taking in data when recording). If it does go thru the PC at some point then chances are there's a big ol' silent soundstream going thru anyway when you're not playing, so fear not.

If you're playing mp3s or something on the PC at the same time as encoding then it could have the effect of slowing down the encode by, oooh, 1% or more ... if your PC is really slow it could be more than that, but on anything with MMX, a player that takes advantage of such, and a decent turn of Mhz the slowdown should be negligible. The worst that can happen is that TMPGEnc messes with multitasking priorities and makes the sound skip (which has happened to me before and is why my winamp has a six second buffer instead of the usual 2s..)

Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more!
