  1. Wondering if someone can help me out. I haven't been able to track down an answer anywhere for this problem

I bought a Chaintech sound card from Newegg with an SPDIF daughter board. Got the drivers installed, hooked it up thru my stereo optical in and almost everything works perfectly except....

Using WinDVD that came with the card I can get dolby 5.1 thru the SPDIF on my reciever. Using anything else to play DVD's, only gives me 2 channel sound. Even PowerDVD only gives me 2 channel though it's got and SPDIF option. I get 2 channel audio thru Media Player as well.

What I really want is to play divx files with AC3 though and I could care less about the DVD's. I can just play them on my DVD player but I can't get Divx files with AC3 to output AC3. All I get is 2 channel sound. Using the latest WinDVD plays the files but just gives me 2 channel sound, even though DVD files it plays perfectly in full AC3. Media player and Zoom Player both give me 2 channel as well.

I know the file has AC3 sound, and I know it's not coming thru to the reciever because it displays the incoming channels on the screen. As far as I can tell I've set everything according to the instructions and WinDVD is doing what it's supposed to with DVD files. I'm missing something and I can't figure it out.

    Hoping someone has a suggestion...

    Thanks,

  4. I installed WinDVD Platum 4.5.11, and in the etup set it to Spdif digital out to external processor, and now it works fine.

A few things I did in addition to that ...

I installe AC3Filter by Vigovsky Alexander. and set speakers to SPDIF

and for my soundcard / settings (I have the Avance AC 97 built into the Asus board the the Spdif add on card installed) I set the speakers to 7.1 (I actually have 7.1 surround, 5.1 should work) and added the spdif in the volume controls, so I can make sure it wasn't muted etc.

As far as that sound card goes, you might want to check to see if there is a jumper on the card that has to be set, their website or the company should offer support to get it to work.
