  1. A few months ago I purchased a Lacie USB 2.0/Firewire d2 DVD-RW drive (Actually a Pioneer 105) and on the driver disk it includes a driver for DVD-RAM. Does this drive support DVD-RAM or is that for some other external that they might have in their line?

  2. If it is truly a Pioneer 105, it doesn't.

  3. Yes, it is truely a 105. As a matter of fact I am running the hacked firmware on it now. Must be the driver was possibly used for another drive type Lacie may have used such as the Panasonic drives or something. Thats what I thought but figured I would ask to see if anyone else knew. Thanks.

Can't write no. Maybe read if you break the RAM from the caddy, but Ive never tried that. Don't see many RAM discs anymore, though one did read on my 103 once, years ago (early 2001).
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  5. They actually do make caddyless DVD-RAM disks also. I know Panasonic includes one with their DMR-E30 home recorder.

  6. Try the DVD-RAM disc on the Lacie drive and see if it can read DVD-RAM and/or write to DVD-RAM. Oh, and let us know the results.

    Thanks!

  7. Unfortunately I do not have a DVD-RAM disk myself or I would try it. Thats why I was asking to see if someone has tried.

  8. Can we ask you to buy a DVD-RAM disc to try out?

don't read , even type II DVD-RAM discs.
I have a TOSHIBA SD-111 DVD RAM Drive, and the only drive that've been able to read the naked removable type II mediaI write in 'em :
the G4's DVD-ROM players --and a few panasonic dvd-rom drives to my knowledge--but don't give up hope..more multi format drives are coming daily..NEC & HITATCHI especially is coming out with multi-write multi read drives ...cheaply..
the plethora of DVD-RAM capable HOME RECORDING SETTOP RECORDERS insures the longevity of the format...now we computer folks just wanna play these recordings back in our towers so wher are our drives?

PS make sure to format your DVD RAM cartridges with UDF...not iso or some wicked format your computer hoodwinks you into accepting
then at least they gotta chance to be read..
Some times too..VRO formated DVD-RAM from the settop is not "REGISTERED " by windows a a known file type and this is not a serious problem..just get some software than understands .VRO files (the home DVD equivalent of .VOB's)

I have a 104 and it cant read my DVD -Rams..I use DVD -Ram in my Panny DMR E30 and i have a Toshiba DVD drive that can read em, it was only £30 and is a cool accompymnet to a panny DMR E30, also there is a new Panny DVD writer that supports CDR,DVDR AND DVD RAM..seem spretty cool.. Ive seen it in uk for about £150.
