I have an AVI file and when I convert it to MPG by the time I get to only 20% the file is like already 720MB. I want to fit this 700MB AVI into two MPG VCD's? ANyone know the setting to fit them into 2 VCD's? The AVI is set to approx 800 bit rate.
Any help in getitng the MPG's down to about 1.4 to 1.5GB will be appreciated.
Thanks. I use TMPenc.

First, the size of the source has NO AFFECT on the size of the encoded MPEG. The size of the encoded MPEG is controlled but the bitrate you choose. The standard VCD template calls for video=1150kbit/s and audio=224kbit/s, this works out to 1min=10MB.
To calculate the correct bitrate for you needs, click on Tools to the left and look at bitrate calculators. The VCDHelp.com one is nice (they are all the same).
Input your info in the calculator and it'll tell you the video bitrate to use. This number is only good if you encode with either CBR (constant bitrate) or 2pass VBR (variable bitrate) [assuming you're using TMPGenc, for CCE multipass VBR].
1) Run TMPGenc
2) Click on load, load the standard VCD or SVCD template.
3) Click on load again, and load the unlock template (should be in ../template/extra) this will unlock all the greyed out areas of the standard templates.
4) Click on settings, under motion search choose high (most agree that highest just uses more time, but doesn't improve the picture that much).
Click on encode and choose either CBR or 2pass VBR. 2pass VBR is better but takes twice as long to run. For CBR enter the number from the calculator, for 2pass VBR enter the number as the ave; set max to you DVD players max, and min to 0,300,900 (doesn't really matter).
5) If necessary click on the audio tab and set the audio bitrate to what you entered in the calculator.
6) Click on the advance tab, double click on source range. If you are using 2 CDRs spilt the movie in two (3 CDRs then 1/3, etc).
7) Choose File | same project. Then go back to source range, choose the 2nd 1/2 of the movie, give the MPEG/output a different name, and choose File | Save project.
Choose batch encode, add both projects, take a nap and you'll get both MPEGs waiting when you come back.
Hope this helps, luck... If you read Sefy's DVD Converison guide it has pics about setting up the source range in TMPGenc, it's all pretty easy once you open the program. -
Hi Vejita,
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately even with a bit rate of 650, I get about 3.2Gigs for a 722MB Divx movie. I even used the calculator for DVtool and it said for a 650MB it should be around 700 odd the bit rate. So something is off.
WOuld appreciate any help here. Thanks
