As most of you know there is more than one manufacture that makes Memorex brand DVD-R. I think I've found out how to distinguish between them without taking them out of the box.
The first and second time I bought Memorex DVD-R were 3 packs in Staples. They were Taiyo Yudens. I've didn't have a problem with any of them burning at 2x and all the way to the edge.
This time I bought a 5 pack from circuit city and DVD Info says they are CMC Magnetics. I don't intend to try these out because of reports in the media section and bad experiences with CMC CD-R.
Anyway, before buying it, look at the back of the box. If it says made in Japan, then its Taiyo Yuden. If it says made in Taiwan, then its CMC. Also the cases are different, the Taiyo came in regular CD cases that have 90 degree edges. The CMC cases are not regular CD cases and have round edges.
