  1. Anyone know how to take screenshots of video files (mpg, avi, dixv, etc)? I would like to do this from the command line or have it run automatically in a script.

    I think virtualdub has a save feature for bmp output and can do frame by frame grabs automatically. Not sure completely but I think it does. Also try virtualdubmod or virtualdubmpeg2 for non avi files.

    You might try a search also. I've seen the topic before, and one of the lasts posts concerning this had a list of software that will perform this action.
