Mkv to WMV/MPEG

Hello there!
I am a first time poster here so forgive my stupidty - if there is one.
I need to convert this file, the format is in .mkv - what the hell i said, my Xbox 360 wont play this! - so now ive to convert (is that the word?) to another format like WMV or MPEG 1 or 2 (no idea whats best) but ive heard WMV is the way to go..
So if there is a helpfull person out there who knows what the best program is, i'd be happy to get that information!

Questions:
1. WMV or MPEG?
2. Best program for it to convert from .MKV?

Edit: I could as well mention that I tried Movkit batch converter last night but the picture became too pixly and it just hurt to see how much worse the quality had become..

If you have your computer connected to the xbox you can stream the video to the xbox with TVersity, it will convert automatically.

It doesnt seem to work, though the audio playback works excellent but not when TVersity is going to convert the files - it never does.
And yes, i can play these files in Windows media player..

Alright, got it to work after have downloaded some xbox 360 patch over at tversitys forum, althooough, i lost the HD quality when streaming so this program is useless for me since i wanted to explore hd and not ..PsP screen quality -.-

Convert to HD WMV with WMnicEnc, open the .avs script file.
or Convert MPEG2 HD with Quenc, open the .avs script file.

Never tried it though.

i want convert a mkv files to mpeg1/vcd format, is it possible to chose audio and subtitle to? im in desperate to know this

Try Avi2Dvd (it converts to vcd also). But it doesn't support all mkv.

You can also split the video,audio,subs streams with MKVExtractGUI. Then add the video,audio, subs in VirtualDUb with a subtitle filter. Export to avi and then encode to VCD. https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=272736
