That just means their own production facilities in Europe are closing. They already did that with their Japan location years ago. They contract out Taiwan CMC to make discs to their specs, with their own TDK codes.

The only thing not discussed was whether TDK will continue to take an active part in the QC and creation process. What happens there is anybody's guess.

I say goodbye and good riddance.

I never found a single reliable TDK tape or disc.

Aren't you the same person who says "buy any disc, they all work, quality variations between manufacturers is a myth"? Yeah, I think that was you. Why the change of heart?

TDK has long been a quality media. Not the best, a few others have that honored rating, but certainly not bad.

In my opinion & experience with TDK dvd media their quality control had become so poor in the last year. I no longer use them as they only produced coasters with all of my dvd burners and on my standalone dvd recorder. I won't miss it! :P

    @Lordsmurf

Nope, not me. I've said that you should buy whatever media works for you and ignore those who say otherwise. If I followed advise of others I'd probably have a hang up with TY discs.

To say that quality amongst manufacturers doesn't differ would be false in any category of products.

  7. I have used many TDK CDs and DVD-Rs. I recently purchased the DVD-RWs for to record TV shows on Samsung DVD-R120. I have never had any problems with TDK.

TDK has always done well by me, the only issue I've had with their disks was when they started outsourcing to CMC. I'd finally ran into a batch that didn't work well.

I was still able to copy on the disks with no errors as long as I didn't record faster than 2x.

All-n-all it was a pretty good product.

  9. I've been using TDK media for years with fine results.
    Currently, I use:
    . TDK 48x cd-r media
. TDK High Speed cd-rw media
    . TDK DVD-R (TT) media - 8x
    . TDK DVD+R (CMC) media - 8x & 16x
    . TDK 4x DVD+RW media

All seem to work flawlessly with no problems. Using a Benq 1620 DVD burner, and Samsung 252 model cd-rw drive. And the last batch of 16x dvd+r media averaged out to about $.22 per disk on a Costco "buy 1 get 1 free" coupon.

As always some people have better results than others. The article in the original posts should be of interest to those who have had good results with TDK media. TDK will no longer be making discs but instead will continue their out sourcing of manufacturing to other plants and slapping their name on the end product.

I can't wait to see the quality reports of TDK Algeria discs.

I've been using TDK tapes and discs for 20+ years without any problems whatsoever. Camcorder service centers routinely recommend TDK MINIDV tapes to customers due to the consistency of their tape quality and the quality of the lubricants used.

  12. This is all part of their plan to stuff Blu-Ray down our throats. Now they can sell a disc for $20 or more each.

I almost exclusively buy TDK, simply because that's the only brand of blank DVD's that Costco carries.....
    yup, I'm a cheap-skate.
I've never had a problem with any of the TDK media I've bought. 100% of my coasters have been due to operator error or software problem -- not media quality.

  15. I used TDK CDR for years with happy results. I had no luck for their
either +R or -R with both Plaxtor712 and LiteOn8xx. Tried several and
all of them are bad after 4G. Returned them to Costco. It is good that
Costco has a very good return policy, but it is too bad that they do not
    carry other brands.

  16. I've always had good results with TDK and Sony for both VHS and DVD... but then recently TDK started slipping cmags into their DVD-R drums so now I only use Sony for DVD, but their VHS are still great.

I doubt this is coincidence but, I picked up some TDK 16x(TT02) last night at 60% off what it's usually sold for up here. I suspect TDK may getting rid of their stock as a tax loss. I've never seen it on sale for that price..ever. I've also never used it before, but it seems the consensus is that it's as good as MIJ Maxell or Verbatim.

Keep you're eyes open for some deals.

From what I have seen, the TDK's TTG01 Japans' where, -sorry-, are amoung the finest discs, the various outsourced ones I noticed people were having problems. Pity they don't stop the outsourced ones and carry on with the MIJ's, rather than the other way round. Utter madness. Its just getting more and more difficult to get decent Japanese media. TDK are stabbing their loyal customers in the back.
