I have two iLo DVDR04 Recorders . I bought a second right after due to being so very impressed with the ease of use, & the quality of the recordings. Recently though I have been having the same issues with both recorders. I have only used two makes of blank DVD+R's & have never had any issues untill now. They are maxell & verbatim.
Issue 1
------------
After recording if I do not finalize the disk right away & eject it, when I go to finalize it later it ruins the disk by trying to prepare it again. I have never had any issues with finalizing disks at a later time until now.
Issue 2
------------
The same disks that I have always used now when I put one in for the first time to prepare it, now many are being ruined by taking to long to prepare. It used to take approx 30 secs for a disk to prepare now when it doesnt work it prepares for many minutes and then I get an error "Invalid Disk". When this happens if you look at the disk you can clearly see it burned something to the disk but now is unusable.
Any suggestions or questions for myself would be appreciated.
Thank You,
Ed

Hey Ed,
I'm not sure but, I also have a ilo...they suck. I already had to return it after two months.(It would not read real DVD...no disk)So I got another ok so far so I hope it was just a reject I had before. Anyway I use DVD-R's even though the recorder says +R's. Any time I use +R's I had problems and not to mention most Stand Alone DVD Players won't play +R's. So try using -R's(any Brand). I think you'll have better luck. But keep in mind Istill think these recorder's suck(cheap) many glitches...alot of rebooting required...good luck"Those Who Must Be Kept" -
Sounds like a Firmware issue...You should contact Guitarman he has excellent information on ilo recoders..

DaywalkerZane,
Sound like you have he R05, which is much different than the R04. The R04 does not use -R/RW media where the R05 will, even though it doesn't say it will.
edziu76,
It sounds to me like the recorders need a good cleaning. I would try a CD/DVD head cleaning disc first to see if that helps. If not, you will need to remove the drive, take the cover off and CAREFULLY clean the laser with a q-tip and alcohol. In most cases, this will remedy the issue. -
Yes, the laser reader in ilo and Lite-On machines tends to get dirty over time due to the cooling fan sucking air through the front of the unit 24/7. Eventually some dust and grime settles on the lens.
It will probably work fine after cleaning it. -
I went through the same issue with Imation DVD+RW. The ones that work are the same UPC as the ones that don't, but the country of origin is different. Beware of the ones from India; my LG4163b barely used them, and couldn't recover them after a failed erase in the dvdr04.
Ditched them, problem solved.
Edit: This refers to issue 2 only.A good divorce beats a bad marriage.
Now I have two anniversaries I celebrate!
