Hi been having a lil troublein the last few days, when i go to convert with dvd santa i sometimes get the message "unable to open audio stream" for some of my movies. I have used gspot and i am only having trouble with the movies using the audio codec 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3, however it says that i have the codec installed (it says its called fraunhofer lls mpeg layer-3 codec (advanced). )Also when i render the movie with gspot nothing appears in the audio src box or in the auido stream box.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Look in Gspot again for 'MP3 VBR audio', or drop the video into VirtualDub and it will tell you right away if that's the problem. I use VirtualDub Mod most of the time. You also want to use the latest version of Gspot, 2.52.

And you might try DivxToDVD, it does a better job of conversion, IMO. A freeware version is still available.

ok i did like u said and dropped the movies in question into virtual dub and i recieved this message

    VBR AUDIO STREAM DETECTED
virtual dub has detected an improper vbr audio encoding in the source avi file and will rewrite the audio header with standard cbr values during processing for better comabtibility. this may introduce up to 19730 ms of skew from the video stream. if this is unacceptable, decompress the entire audio stream to an uncompressed wav file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate 130.2 - 19.o kbps)

Now i will be honest i havent a clue what to do next and i have now also noticed that these movies will no longer play on divx for me and i recieve the tag 85 error everytime i try.

Please any help will appreciated as it is so annoying as this problem has just come out of the blue, everything was working fine yesterday and of course i am now unable to convert these movies.

MP3 VBR and sometimes AC3 can cause problems when encoding a Xvid or Divx to MPEG-2 for DVDs. It's a common problem, so you might as well learn how to do this. VirtualDub tells you the method, but here's a guide.

    https://www.videohelp.com/virtualdubaudio.htm

I usually use VirtualDub Mod and save out the audio as a WAV with full processing. Then I put that into ffmpegGUI and convert to AC3 and add that back to the MPEG-2 encoded video when I author the DVD.

Here's a guide for VD Mod for the same thing:

Thanks for the help so far mate i chose your second option and have followed all the steps and have now converted my wav sound file into a ac3 file but now im at a dead end again (noob i know). Of course now i have two seperate files the ac3 file and the actual video file so i wondered if someone could suggest the best thing to join these two together and how to get them onto dvd. As i said before i am currently using dvd santa to convert my films and burn to dvd but i cannot seem to find a way on there where i can add the video and audio file seperately.

Sorry to bother you guys again

The way I do it is to encode just the video with a MPEG-2 encoder like TMPGEnc, then open the MPEG-2 in an authoring program like TMPGEnc DVD Author. Select the new AC3 audio and add menus, etc. and author to DVD.

But if you want to use DVDSanta, you can open the original video in VDMod and go to 'Streams' again. Select 'Add' and browse to your new AC3 audio. When you have it on the screen, click 'Move Up' and bring it to the top. Select your old audio and click 'Delete', then 'OK'. This will 'mux' or combine your new audio with the original video when you are done. It won't damage the original file.

Go back to the main screen and select 'Video', 'Direct Stream Copy'. Save this file with a new name to your hard drive, then use that for DVDSanta. It should work, though I don't use DVDSanta.

There are other ways to do all this, but I like the first method to get the best quality and the most control over the encoding process. You could also convert the VBR audio to CBR audio and mux it back into the original video. The All-in-One converters like DVDSanta don't give many options.

    Post moved to here .

i Recently I have been having terrible trouble converting any movies to DVD that use the audio codec 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3, however it says that i have the codec installed (it says its called fraunhofer lls mpeg layer-3 codec (advanced). When I tried to render the movie in Gspot it failed to show up anything in the audio box. I was also unable to convert the movie withh DVD santa as it could not find the audio stream.

To combat this I made a post on the audio Forum stating this problem, I was advised to download virtualdubmod and save out the audio as a WAV with full processing Then put that into ffmpegGUI and convert to AC3, then to select the ac3 audio as the new sound for the movie and save the movie to the hard-drive.
Now for some reason when I converted the newly saved movie with dvdsanta the dvd played with a red picture and with no sound. I also converted with divxtodvd and had the same result.

I am really puzzled and dont know what is causing this any, response would be much appreciated.
